A few observations from the stats:
- Burrows was back to his marauding best. Our team put in 17 crosses, 3 from Hamer, 1 each from Choud and BBD, and 12 from Burrows, including a fantastic cross for the assist. Indeed if we had made a few more near post runs in the first half we could have scored more. He also had most key passes, joint most successful tackles and perhaps surprisingly, most aerial duels won. Overall, on the stats he was our MOTM by some distance
- Anel with most successful defensive contributions (8) , a pass completion rate of 90%, one key pass and a couple of fabulous dribbles, is second in the ratings. Choud stats as a right back were poor with no tackles, and he appears more comfortable in centre mid.
- Vini had 96% pass completion, with joint second most tackles, and Peck with second most aerial duels and six defensive contributions made his presence felt! More offensively Hamer with most shots, most key passes, most successful drizbbles etc is getting back to his best. Hope he isn’t injured!
- Up top, Campbell had second most shots, one key pass, and of course a great run and goal. But he also had 100% pass completion rate, showing how effective he was as a sole attacker, either holding the ball up and laying it off, or running off the shoulder of the defender. I really want Cannon to show his value, but with just 11 touches in 33 minutes, no shots, no dribbles, no crosses, and 6 attempted passes with a lowly 50% success rate, does really stand out in comparison. I appreciate we tend to sit back when leading making it harder for our strikers but the graph showing team momentum fell off a cliff as soon as Cannon came on. Moore would surely have been more effective.
But another vital 3 points, especially as the plane pointers have started scoring. But let’s enjoy the win and move onto another key game on Tuesday. Wouldn’t it be funny if the Dirties was the team to wobble!
