A fact that got lost in the excitement...

Always good to beat big teams, but it's not like it's broken a hoodoo or anything. Apart from last year, the four seasons since 1991 when we've been in the same league (PL) we've been struggling against relegation and losing more often than not. I also believe that we beat them in the FA Cup sometime around 2004/5 but could be wrong.

2-0 at The Lane. David Kelly with the first after blocking Alan Kelly's clearance. Devlin got the 2nd with a 20 yard curler
Leading up to Xmas United handed out free tickets to this game with every shirt sold if I remember right. Got the shirt for Christmas, couldn’t make game

I remember going to a Villa away game midweek- early 90s? - we lost 3-1 but our goal by Glyn Hodges was a cracker.

I could swear that 2-0 win was my first ever Blades game.

Before Saturday, Steve Bruce had won 7 of his 8 matches against United (D1) including all 4 at Bramall Lane.

January 1993. Deane scored. Mel Rees was our sub keeper and we all thought he had recovered from the illness
Thanks for the correction. Maybe Hodges was involved in the build-up. Wouldn't mind seeing the goal again if there's a video of it. I remember watching the highlights on Sportsnight the same evening.

Chris Kamara's only goal in a Blades shirt?

That is the game where a bloke sat on the side of the pitch threw a mars bar on the pitch to Hodges and was taken out by the police leaving his young lad in the crowd.
We were sat on the away end behind the net and watched it all unfold. Hodges laughed at the mars bar and may well have passed it back.

Was Wards a dream top corner free kick? Its what I remember but its sooo long ago I'm not sure!
That was my recollection too until I watched it again a few minutes ago! Not quite top corner but a great strike; first goal for us?

Beat them 3-1 with Andy Liddell scoring 2 I think.

I remember that game, I was mascot and watched half of it from the roof of the south stand. Best view ever, like sensible soccer but sideways

...this was our first league win over Villa since 14 December 1991. Since shellsuits and raves were in. Since before the internet became a thing. Since before football was invented by Sky and the Premier League.

I fucking love Chris Wilder me.

Love stats like that. 27 years without a win!!!

91-92:
W 2-0
D 1-1

92-93:
L 0-2
L 3-1

93-94:
L 1-0
L 1-2

06-07:
D 2-2
L 3-0

17-18:
D 2-2
L 0-1

18-19:
W 4-1

Or 9 games...

Or 4 seasons...

It's difficult to beat teams when you don't play them.

On a similar theme, Liverpool haven't won at the Lane since 1990-1...

First league win probably because we haven’t been in the same league often since the early 90s.

This was a great game though
