Should we go for it 100% in the cup this year?

I’ve heard conflicting views about whether we want a cup run this year. “We won’t win it anyway”, “it might fuck up promotion”, “too many games”. Compared with “we’re playing well with a big squad”, “always want to win matches/cup run” and “we have big enough cushion.”

So I’d be interested in who wants a cup run. Beat Wrexham, which you’d expect, and we have a great chance of the quarters or better.

FA cup (not LC cup, too many early season games when the season is just getting going) runs are worthwhile to keep the momentum of a season going IMO. FA Cup isn't loads of extra games. Best way to treat it, is to mix up the squad a bit in rounds 3 and 4 and then if we happen to find ourselves in the 5th round we can start to care a bit.

One of the biggest disappointments about the Covid season was missing what would have been an amazing FA cup quarter final at home to Arsenal when Wilder's team was near(ish) it's peak and would have been backed by a packed and loud BDTBL.

We would have won that quarter with a crowd at BDTBL 100%

Yes, always want a cup run

but this season we stand at the crossroads.
Simply put, we MUST be promote this season, otherwise we'll become a Coventry or QPR for years. Should be good enough to avoid promotion but mid table might be the height of our ambitions because we won't be able to compete financially with the ex PL parachute clubs.

So I won't be as disappointed as normal if we are knocked out, then we can concentrate on the league.

We can afford a decent cup run with the points difference we have. We’ll be a very good cup team since we concede so few chances.
Chance to generate some funds and mems.

I wanted us to play a "weakened" team v Millwall in 3rd round. But our league position a few weeks later is looking so good that I'm excited about a potential cup run now as well!

Still wary about risking Ndiaye/Lowe/Bogle though. Think we need to "risk" Norwood as he's essential, though he's not generally injury prone (jinx).

Play players we can risk losing. If that makes sense. If we win, brill. If we don't, be reyt.

There is only one thing that matters.
Promotion. Our future depends on it and the income it brings.
The result at Wrexham is utterly irrelevant except in one regard, not one first team player gets injured.
The only game that really matters is the one at Rotherham on Feb 4th.

For me watching the Blades is all about those brilliant moments - on the night - at the match - no matter what league or competition we’re in.
For this reason, I love it when we have a great cup run and the buzz of winning a meaningful one-off match against a big side that means we’re through and they’re out.
Particularly like how there’s no VAR for us this year - so we can actually genuinely celebrate (I absolutely despise VAR).

However, I think all our last 3 promotion seasons were when we went out in the 3rd (or 2nd!) round. Whenever we’ve had a great cup run in anything like recent times, we’ve missed out on promotion: a prime example of this being Warnock’s triple-assault season.

I want us to get promoted. I don’t want a cup run to get in the way, lead to injuries, or fixture pile-up, or fatigue. I love it when we win cup matches. I actually love a cup run. I’ll never want us to lose a football match. I don’t know what I want really!???

We got to an FA cup quarter final while simultaneously being one of the most honking premier league teams in history.

I do like the fa cup.

Pretty indifferent to a cup run. My preference would be another championship team in each round. Two teams that arent really arsed and if we go out we go out, sound. Premier League teams arent really that interesting to me either.

In fact, a draw like Wrexham away is possibly the worst one. A hostile atmosphere against a team who will no doubt try and kick us to bits as a leveller. Ndiaye shouldnt even be on the bus, leave him at home playing fortnite or somert. Our second string should be enough to win but not really arsed if we lose. Best result will be a clean bill of health whatever the result on the pitch.

Want us to win in front of the Nation on Sunday and play well, can't lose to non league again. A decent draw in R5 ( full house, tv) welcome for the dosh but wouldn't lose any sleep if we lost to anyone but one.

Don't risk key players if we don't have to, but make sure we keep players match fit and use it to get minutes into McBurnie, Coulibaly and Osborne and anyone else who is needs it. We should get through comfortably with a second string out.

Then see who we get in the next round, if we've extended our lead and we have a good chance at a quarter final, go for it. The momentum, confidence and a buzzing crowd could help us in the league too

Let's have a real go starting this Sunday, but if we lose I won't be too fussed.

Not going to be easy against Wrexham though. Can easily see us going out sorry 😞

I’d love to see the ages of voters, I’ve got a feeling a lot more younger people won’t be bothered about a cup run compared to older people who’d actually give up promotion for a cup win

I’d like one but realistically the Carabao Cup as a struggling PL team one year is our main hope one day. The big boys still try in the FA cup.

I reckon we’d have beaten them in front of a raucous BDTBL.

Then again, I also think we might have sneaked into a Europa League spot if i) we hadn’t had the disruption of 3 months break for covid and ii) our games had been played in front of said raucous crowds.

One day perhaps!

On balance, I want to go up, so i voted no

But I see no harm in putting a team out to win on Sunday.

The 5th round is between games between Blackburn and Watford so I'd expect a weakened team for that one. If we lose we lose

A win means one game from wembley so we are likely to put out a decent team and from there on who knows, but I'd expect us to go out in round 5

So true
Queued for hours like many others ffs 🤦‍♂️

We got £105,000 prize money for beating Millwall and if we beat Wrexham we get £120,000 plus I think share of TV and gate money. After Wrexham if we win the next round ( 5th) we get another £225,000 prize money plus tv, gates etc.. so at least £450,000. Given our parachute payments are about £35 mill the FA Cup money is peanuts but good for our cash flow!

OK,I'm 69 and want a good Cup run but when I was 15 I also wanted a Cup run.Age doesn't enter into it.I just want United to win every game full stop.
