Paul Walker Sheff Utd now in negotiations with Tommy Smith, John Joe O'Toole and Michael McIndoe after having bids for all three players accepted. Ian Bennett has signed a one year contract. So Julian Gray is added to the list of wingers we are linked with; he was very highly regarded a few years back but has lost his way somewhat.

He is naturally left sided so he would give us a bit more balance across the middle.

Sheffield United have begun talks with Watford's Tommy Smith and John-Joe O'Toole plus Bristol City's Michael McIndoe after having bids accepted.

The Championship club have offered £1.8m for Smith while their bid for McIndoe was accepted on Wednesday.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We are in discussions with all three and I am sure fans will agree they are all quality players.

"We have to build a squad that will give us more options next season."

It is believed United had an initial bid rejected by the Hornets for striker Smith, who scored 17 goals last season, two weeks ago, Reading and Wolves are also said to be interested.

Smith, 29, has spent eight seasons at Vicarage Road in two spells, he also played for Sunderland and Derby.

Republic of Ireland international midfielder O'Toole, 20, had a three-month loan-spell at United from Vicarage Road last season, he made nine appearances scoring once.

Meanwhile Scottish winger McIndoe, 29, joined Bristol City from Wolves in August 2007 and has scored 13 goals in 97 appearances.

Speaking after Blades' bid was accepted on Wednesday, Robins boss Gary Johnson told BBC Points West: "They are talking to Macca. I think it will happen within the next couple of days."
