listening to RS earlier and we only have 9 contracted players for next season

looks like a busy summer for who ever is incharge.

kenny, france, morgan, williamson, yeates, ward, quinn, cresswell, henderson, sharp, kamara, taylor, estonian keeper, I think have at least another 12 months on their contracts.

I make that 13. But what do I know. Those three from Radio Sheffield are always right aren't they?

Hopefully it won't be Blackwell having to sort the mess out.

Busy, or simply impossible? Unless the predicted glut of players on the market materialises, we're going to have to be very lucky and very good in our recruitment.

Then, of course, this bunch of strangers needs to be melded into a team.

Just remind me why I'm renewing again? ;)

It will, if not this summer, then certainly next. Football really is imploding financially, and the value of players' contracts is going to plummet. They will get a rude awakening when their current contracts expire. Transfer fees outside of the PL could become largely a thing of the past too. Interesting times ahead..

I agree and I think Unted have seen that before any other club and it will pay dividends in the years to come.

I think we've overspent on non football related projects and they're now a noose around our neck. I don't think our patchwork squad has anything to do with prudence or planning. I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

wasn't Camara only till the end of the season ? ?
also Ward and Henderson have been linked with moves as we still have to cut the wage bill you could also put Quinn on that list as he is still on prem wages.
France and Taylor are not good enough at all
the estonian keeper is 1 for the future so leaving a starting 11 of

GK - Kenny
RB - ? ? ? ?
LB - ? ? ? ?
CB - Morgan
CB - ? ? ? ?
MF - Williamson
MF - Yates
MF - Cresswell
MF - ? ? ? ?
S - Evans
S - Sharp

Sorry Iggle I forgot about Chedwyn. That makes it 14. I thought kamara was signed on an 18 month contract but maybe wrong. Taylor, Quinn, France simply not good enough and having seen every game Yeates has played I am yet to be convinced. Apart from a good twenty minutes at Preston he hasn't impressed me at all.

I think they will prove to be our saving grace. Our debts are secured on land, bricks & mortar. Not on the valuation of players or future season ticket sales or the forlorn hope of getting planning permission to turn your green belt training ground into housing, or any of the other very clever things that some clubs did. We are also not owned, or funded by, some shady oligarch who might one day lose either his interest in football or his fortune. There will be a storm over the next few years, I agree with SensiBlade, I think we are weathering it earlier than most, and could potentially emerge from it all as one of the strongest clubs around.

Hopefully with a different manager. :D

Does this mean getting in debt to the tune of 48 million quid and selling all our good young players is part of a cunning plan?

The only dividend that strategy is likely to generate is a dividend payment of x pence in the pound to non-football creditors.

 Good point that may have just crunched someones crisps!

So lots of freebies coming in the summer then - anyone got a list of those players out of contract which we might be interested in? There must be someone on the net compiling said list?

I think this is very close to the mark if not spot on.

Clubs that are piling up players on expensive long term contracts & paying large transfer fees, are going to suffer in the long run a'la Cardiff being wound up if they dont get promoted.
Not negotiating now will bring some realism into football salaries , and I think following an initial stand-off from agents salaries & transfer fees will plumet.
Clubs are at last being realistic.
Cardiff we already know are in deep smeg if they dont get promoted.
Leicester & Forest dont seem to have learned their lesson , Derby I think will once again be squeezed, What will Portsmouth , Hull & West Ham do next season ?.
I think there will be a lot of middle ranked overpaid players desperate for a contract by the start of next season, and hopefully then we should be in pole position to take advantage.

I'll sort of pencil Naysmith in here he has already stated he his willing to drop his wage in hopes of earning a new contract, whether he'll be willing to drop them to meet the new structure will remain to be seen.

Not crunched anyones crisps TBH.
Half the debt being the Hotel and the other half McCabe I would say that the finances although not rosy are pretty secure.

I'm pretty sure that McCabe and Co know what they are doing slightly better than we do :)

Why isn't Ward in this list, hasn't he got a long term contract ?

He's certain to be sold in the summer, isn't he? He's the only one on the books who might command a decent price.

Yeah but we can't assume anyone has been sold yet.... If we did that then we'd have just France, Taylor and Quinn left

i'm usually skeptical about such things but having such a small number of players on the roster could turn out to be a masterplan as i reckon the game will go into meltdown this summer

It's always free beer tomorrow.

Did Kenny sign a new deal??? if it is 9 i get Hendo, Ward, Morgan, Evans, Williamson, Creswell, Taylor, Sharp and a another? Am not sure if Harper and Yeates signed long term.

Thinks harps runs out at end of season, yes Kenny has another year I believe.

The actual squad list (as things 'definitely' stand at present) will be:

Paddy Kenny
Ryan France
Chris Morgan
Darius Henderson
Ched Evans
Kyle Reid
Mark Yeates
Lee Williamson
Andy Taylor
Richard Cresswell
Jamie Ward
Jordan Stewart
Billy Sharp*
Stephen Quinn
Mihkel Aksalu

So 15 contracted players as things stand, with Billy the most likely to be taken from this list (depending on the management situation of course).

IMHO, if this were to remain, my team would be:

--------------------Paddy

New RB------Morgan------New CB-----Taylor

Ward-----Williamson-----Quinn-------Yeates

------------Hendo-----Cresswell

Subs: Aksalu, France, Stewart, Reid, Evans, Sharp*

So we desperately need another RB (Connolly perm?), 2 x CB (Seip, Nos perms?), possibly another LB, and depending on the Billy situation, another CF (Camara perm?)

UTB!

What? you think someone might actually buy Stewart? :D

I'm told that Stewart is on similar wages to Hendrie, but with another year on his contract. If this is anywhere near true, he's not going anywhere.
