The gap to top spot has narrowed but we're still 5 points off 2nd

Coventry are looking a threat, they have a game in hand on the leaders and a decent goal difference. The televised game on Dec 13 could be a big one.

This is my virgin post so hello everyone,

Just been looking back on the statto website and after 12 games last season we have the same amount of points although the league leaders as of last season had 31 points which were Bristol City, my point being that I believe (again) that we can do it this season.

or the positive way to look at it is 1st and 2nd are now just 2 results away
its up to us to chip away , a point a week will do for 5 weeks

we now know we can score goals , which is very positive
just got to tighten up a bit

Welcome aboard shaun.

the difference this season now , is now Dones back theres lots of attacking options
last season we,d have drawn todays game as we wouldnt have attacked as much , or scored 3

this season we will win games that we drew last season
which is in my opinion why we will do it

If only we had a settled solid defence.

To my mind it is all we need now. Brayford will be back soon, and in January I reckon we will sign that decent centre half we all know we need.

Onwards and upwards. COYRAWW.

Don,t forget to take the necessary precautions!

When you consider we only need to better their results by two games over the rest of the season in order to get into the top spots it's not much.

When you consider that we've lost more than the other top six sides and we still look dangerously weak off the ball, you have to question how realistic that it. Frankly, I just don't see it with the squad as is.

But then, we have just beaten the team in joint first, so it's not like we're incapable of pulling results out.

A settled solid midfield would be nice too Hartley, once again they played through us to easily.

It's very frustrating because if we'd recruited well in defence in summer I've no doubt we'd be top now. It's a very even league.

We're evening it out even more by being on target to concede 70/80 goals.

We need over 100 goals to be successful this season.
If we pull it off it will be an entertaining season but a business that invests something like £8M in a year should not put its self in that position.

If it was intended to go down the loan route have we not learned anything form the past?
Season long loans of upcoming players like Cahill and Cody are the way to do it not 30+ over the hill short term deals.

But so might Walsall and Burton. :(

It's reyt. I'm only concerned about Bury and Coventry. I don't think we'll finish in the top two, we can't beat the teams around us. The teams we have beat are wank, as the table shows. I think the next five are too.

Peterborough? Swindon? Rochdale? Wank? (they came up last season...:D)

Peterborough were wank at the time, not so bad for a bit with new manager. Swindon are proper wank. Rochdale.. Yeah, I'll give you that one, they're doing ok.

'You can only beat what's put in front of you...' etc. etc. Talking of which, Walsall v Burton looked highly impressive on the Channel 5 highlights last night, Walsall away on 21st November will be a test.

Are these the same people who were not worried about, Bournemouth, Pigs, Preston, Rotherham and the other fuckers who have beaten us to promotion for 4 years. This isn't a fucking drill.

Yeah, I think the Walsall game will be the end of our run. Promotion teams usually raise their game to beat the teams at the top with them, something we've not been quite good enough to do. It's true you can only beat what's in front of you but unless the Burtons, Gillinghams and Burys fuck up a lot against the lower teams, they'll finish above us if we can't beat them, which we can't.

Honestly think all we need is one functional centre half (ideally an experienced one, and from a division up), and what passes for a midfield general in div 3--ie a mobile, box to box player who tackles hard but can pass the ball consistently. He could be pretty much any age, or at any stage of his career. We have goals from lots of different parts of the pitch, so he wouldn't even need to be a free scorer.

With everyone fit we've got enough flair to get up, but because there's often a free 30 yards for the oppo to run into between the half way line and our box, we always look like we might ship a goal, at the moment, anytime we lose the ball in our own half. Two functional players is all they have to be. Nothing fancy or stupidly expensive. Just functional and well rounded players who are capable of doing what the team needs of them. Len, were he still around these parts, might have had a short and pithy phrase for this.

Thought. Edgar, if he's been carrying an injury recently, might still prove to be one of them. His first few games for us were very solid, I thought.

Reminded me of watching a warm up fight ,maybe second on the card. Two hopefuls going hammer and tongs at each other with hope and desperation in equal measure producing a really excellent bout. But you never see either of them any higher up or in main events.
