5 or 6

5 or 6 makes sense covers the loans going back and the extra spaces on the bench.

Really have a horrible feeling that this summer is going to be like Norwich 2019/2020 season, hardly spend anything and get hammered every week.

I think we need way more than 5/6 too.

The way I'd see it:

GK
Signing 1
(Foderingham)
(Davies)

RWB
Baldock
(Bogle)

RCB
Ahmedhodzic
(Basham)

CB
Egan
(Signing 2)

LCB
Signing 3
(Robinson)

LWB
RND
(Signing 4)

RCM
Berge
(Signing 5)

CM
Signing 6
(Norwood)

LCM
Signing 7
(Signing 8)

AM
Ndiaye
(Signing 9)

CF
Signing 10
(Signing 11)
McBurnie
Jebbison
Brewster

So around 11 signings. 5 no. for the first XI, 6 no. for cover.
And this is assuming Ndiaye and Berge sign deals and we don't have to sell & replace them.

I would say thank you and goodbye to O'Connell, Stevens, Lowe, Osborn, Fleck and Sharp. They've been great for us but we're reaching the end of a cycle and need to bring in some new fresh bodies.

I'd look for loan moves for Arblaster, Coulibaly, Osula and possibly even Brewster.

There's no way we're singing 11 new players

We'll be setting ourselves up for failure if we don't sign around that number.

We've made one permanent signing in the last 5 transfer windows. Players are coming to the end of their cycles here. We need to replace half the squad.

I think there's two ways to look at it

It seems fairly clear that we can't afford to sign 11 players, so that would be academic.

I also think that our team system and structure is our strength and bringing 11 new players in and losing the experienced ones would likely destroy that.

I do agree with your point on permanent singings though. I'd be happy with extending contracts by a year and bringing 4 in permanently.

But see, I reckon if you LBs are Lowe/Osborn and LCBs RND and Robbo, that's not the end of the world. Not ideal, but I think the defence is the area that needs the least attention.

Golden rule: in promoted manager speak "5 or 6" really means 8 or 9

I'm just grateful he didn't say "2 or 3"

I can almost guarantee you the back 5 and their current backups will remain the plan apart from a RCB to cover Anel.

The main signings will be:
1 RCB
2 or 3 midfielders
1 attacking midfielder/support striker
1 Center forward

The left side of our defence isn't good enough. We really need someone to come in ahead of Robinson.

We also have no midfield. Berge is the only one that might be up to it.
Fleck, Norwood, Osborn - nowhere near and all out of contract.

Up top. McBurnie is miles off the level.

Robinson will be playing and starting and i think he's earned it tbh.

RND will be his cover, whilst Lowe will be covering RND at LWB.

Ozzy will be kept around as can cover multiple positions but won't get many minutes.

Norwood will be kept around but again sparingly used.

Anel will cover Egan at CB but need someone to cover Anel at RCB.

End of the line for Stevens, Fleck and Basham tho sadly.

Agree with you on the midfield and up front and is where we will be majorly focusing.

I don't see an outcome where McBurnie doesn't stay next season.

It appears he wants to stay. Not saying he's gonna score 10 next season or even 5 but for what we paid and our first season back up I don't see us letting him go for free to have to spend on another replacement.

Think it will be the same with Norwood to be honest and I don't have a massive problem with either of them being squad players.

Agree about the others though.

Hecky's not going to announce released players today on Radio Sheffield.

Norrington Davis wasn’t good enough before his injury. I don’t think three quarters of a season out injured will have turned him into a premier league player.

If we are bringing in 5 or 6, needs to be up and down the left hand side. Starting with a LWB who is a strong crosser which is essential ( because neither Baldock and Bogle are in the other side), LCB, LCM and inside left (McAtee on loan maybe one option, but I'd like to see someone else in the squad who has a stronger all around game). Our other left sided players can be competition/cover, but that's where we strengthen the 1st 11. The problem with going for only 5/6 signings, is that almost any signing with our budget for the Prem is a gamble, however well we scout them...we would need all those signing to come off.

That's right , if Lowe & Osborn are the LCBs , it's not the end of the world.
But it's the end of keeping clean sheets

Who covers Egan at CCB ?

Two outfield players for each position plus 3 goalies makes 23 plus (reluctantly) McBurnie & Coulibaly makes 25.

Wes , NEW , Amissha
Furious , Bogle
Anel , NEW
Egan , NEW
Robbo , NEW
RND , Lowe
Berge , NEW
NEW , Norwood
NEW , NEW
Ndiaye , NEW
Jebbo , NEW

That's 8 new signings even if we don't sell Ndiaye & Berge.

We can only afford transfer fees for perhaps 4 players hopefully including Doyle.

Maximum of 2 loans from PL clubs , hopefully McAtee & another.

Unlimited loans from abroad of which we need 2.

Wage bill £80m.
Transfer & loan fees £70m
PL income £150m gone in a flash
But we have a chance of staying up if we recruit better than 2019.

Keeping players like Stevens , Fleck , Sharp , Osborn & Bash in a PL squad does us no favours.
It not only increases the chances of immediate relegation , but also leaves us with a poorer squad with which to attack the Championship in 24/25.
These players have been great servants but are at the end of their useful time with us and need to be replaced , even if it is by younger prospects with potential to develop.

We have dodged a bullet by Egan being ever-present. Anel did well today at CCB. But we desperately need cover in all 3 CB positions as the PL will put our defence under intense pressure.

5 or 6 plus what we have. We already have Doyle and McAtee here... so in reality, it'll be 8 signings? About right.
