Yeah, he’s stubborn, sticking with Milfton at left half. I reckon he should bring King back.

[puts the Complete Records back on the shelf]

Actually, while I’ve got the book out, the Complete Records says that the cup defeat against Bolton (semi final - held at Old Trafford) had “a record crowd for any game out of London”.

Need to start being braver. Should have got a replay from that Bolton game with a bit of ambition

Ah, if Bolton was played at a neutral venue then the last time we played five consecutive away games was 1903/04.

Never realised we were only a 1-0 defeat away from being part of the famous White Horse Final.

Presumably our Captain that day let his Dad go up for the coin toss, a nice gesture.

One for your "Is he really only 25" thread, I think.
If Billy Gillespie was our captain at the point (he took over the role in 1923 but not sure at what point) he would have been 31 in that pic but actually played for us into his 40s playing his last game in 1933. No idea how old he looked by then!

I thought it was Gillespie on first glance, aye. As you, he must have looked positively ancient when he retired!

pre WW1. Broke his leg in early 1914-15 season and missed the rest of the season missing the 1915 FA Cup final. After the WW1 many spectators didnt recognise him as his hair had gone!

Cheers Cheets and others for the info and pictures.

I'm on the train to Wolverhampton so I thought to share what I came across, for a bit of pre-match light reading for those interested.

6* aways in a row:

1922-23, although the fourth game in this run was at a neutral venue. Some will see that as away, others not. It came in a run of 5 other genuine aways, either way. The run itself was caused by a combination of being drawn "away" in the later rounds and a League backlog created by the two previous Cup rounds needing 4 replays to be settled.

Silent - are you a real person or something from the Matrix?

PS - Can you tell me why my heel hurts when its foggy?

I think that was when he was interviewed by the BBC talking about the Cup final. He passed away in 1981, a month away from being 90
1981? Have you not got a date and time?

Please not 2nd May. About 4.50pm

When will the club play the (we cant play because of injuries and covid card) this week ? as late in the week as possible ?

Or will we be gallant and play an understrength side and take defeat on the chin if we get beat ?
