I was at that Oxford game and remember the shock when we heard Hodgy was dropped. Well overdue though in truth as you say. Must say Hope appeared from nowhere to us at the time but he was excellent until he in turn lost his confidence in the First Division. Personally I never had a lot of confidence in McAlister who didn't seem to have that inner confidence that's needed.

Jim Brown was our best keeper for the 1970s decade but I was surprised to see on youtube early this week that two of L**ds goals in our 5-1 defeat in Sept 1974 should have been dealt better by Brown! I was at that match and dont remember cursing Brown for these two goals (the 1st and 3rd). He did win POTY for the 1974/75 season (West Ham's 2nd goal in our 3-2 win in March 1975 was a howler by Brown!) and won a Scotland cap

When did you start watching Tonge though? Magic in the early 00's, then got very frustrating quickly. He used to have to take the initiative in the midfield far too often though, dropping deep where he was no major threat.

I thought he was a pussy. Pulled an 'I'm trying my bollocks off' face but really he was coasting in the knowledge he'd already got his reputation covered from the early days. Passenger.

Morgan often didn't seem (to me) to know the difference between competitiveness and violence/aggression.

You only have to take a poll of what other clubs fans think of him to understand what I mean.

I do realise that this isn't a common opinion for a Blade, but the way he played often didn't sit right with me.

Will not have anything wrong said against Morgan 100% every game wish we had him on the pitch now.
Clough must rate him as well on the line brings a lot in that department also.
If a few got hurt along the way thats football.

Collins porter and doyle hearalded the start of the journey to league one, most people knew it the minute they signed, we were on our way down the leagues..

Only when theyre all gone will we rise again... and dont get all emotional about doyle, its took him years to become a "good trier"

Porter didn't sign until we were already relegated, so while you can blame him for a lot of things, relegation isn't one of them!

He just about misses out on my top 5 due to his goals against Forest last season and his coolness taking a penalty.
