433

Burke - McBurnie - Brewster

Fleck - Ampadu - Berge

Lowe/Stevens - Egan - Bashan - Baldock

Ramsdale
My problem with that would be Brewster whilst he isn’t slow he isn’t quick and he’s very much a penalty box striker not a wide forward more sharp like than some people are thinking. He’s not going to to beat a man 1 on 1 for instance or whip a ball in he’s more about dropping off players and creating himself half a yard in the box.

We could emulate the 433 shape Barnsley used when McBurnie ripped apart Baldock and Bash and line up something like this. (with everyone available that is)

I feel that with a more offensive midfielder or a good dedicated wide player signed to play within this system we could play some more adventurous and entertaining football and hopefully breakaway from our overly rigid and low confidence style ATM. Just an Idea 🤷‍♂️

Unless we get someone better than Egan in to partner him I don't want us going anywhere near 4 at the back

We dont have the wingers to play 433 imo.
We don't have any wingers, but we need a change. Imagine a team like West Brom working all week to combat our formation and we throw that in the mix.

If it doesn't work then fair enough but we can't buy a goal/win right now so why not?

Burke and Osborn are the closest we have to wide players. I think if Wilder is going to change the system, he could go 343 with a diamond.

Ramsdale

Basham Egan Robinson

Norwood

Berge Fleck

McBurnie

Burke Brewster Osborn

I like that, tbf I like anything that's refreshing the system right now. We've gone stale.

4-1-2-1-2
This could work if Ampadu is in the DM position - transitioning to centre half when we're on the attack to allow the full backs to push on. Sergio Busquets did that to great effect at Barcelona - it gave them the freedom to play Alves and Jordi Alba effectively as wingers when they had the ball. The question mark would be whether Egan could cover the LCB role or if Ampadu would have to drop diagonally backwards (more difficult). We could also go to a 4-1-4-1 when defending:

When attacking:

Ramsdale

Basham Ampadu Egan

Berge Fleck

Baldock McGoldrick Stevens

Burke Brewster
When defending:

Ramsdale

Baldock Basham Egan Stevens

Ampadu

Burke Berge Fleck McGoldrick

Brewster
That said, we all know it'll be a 3-5-2/5-3-2 set up as "there's nothing wrong with the system"...except that we've lost 8 of 9 league games this season playing it.

That through ball for McB would suggest there is more to him than that

I think CWAK are planning something for the WBA game, it will revolutionise football, but then we'll let a soft goal in and miss some easy chances and we'll lose anyway.

I’d agree he’s showing signs he can link maybe drop deep to look for the ball and influence play but that doesn’t make him a wide forward in a three. United fans seem to be operating under the misapprehension that he’s rapid and can consistently beat a man 1 on 1 in the dribble and that’s just not him.

I think he can although I don’t think he is rapid

FOUR FOUR FUCKING TWO.

Sorry. I don't want us to play 442, just popped into my head for some reason.
Someone could make that line famous if said in the right context though.

Chris Wilder's Pre-match Press Conference.......

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Sheffield United will be playing THREE, FIVE FUCKING TWO!!!

I think he can although I don’t think he is rapid
It depends what you want from a wide forward in a three if you’re going to give that player license to roam inside an effectively swap with the central player from time to time and cause problems that way then maybe but it would take time to adapt and expand his game and we’re already asking him to do that to become a more complete 9 . But if you want a player to to beat his man on the outside consistently and deliver a cross it’s just not his skill set.
