We went to the pub with my Uncle Fred today, aged 97 and perhaps United’s oldest surviving fan.
He was telling us that as the Blades has got knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round, he was taken aged 11 to Hillsborough for the Wednesday-Man City 4th tie on February 17th, 1934, nearly 86 years ago.
It turned out to be the all time record crowd at the Sty, 72,841. It was a 2-2 draw, City won the replay and eventually the Cup.

what i tell any wednesdayite who mentions there boxing day,dont forget we had already beet them 7 -- 3 and missed a penalty yes long time ago i was14 years old at the time about 1950. us old ones are still here, so we can still laugh at them trying to make scoring four goals against a team that had already scored 7 against them and yes i was at both matches
