4 points off play offs

It is a curious thing isn't it. Everyone else is so shit, I really didn't think Wigan were up to much but I bet they win it now.

We're two points clear of 13th and four points clear of 14th. As far as I'm concerned this is what we should be focussing on. We have a fantastic opportunity to finish in the top half of League One this season.

The man in your avatar would have been so proud.

Is there a DeGoey turn, does anyone know?

Only if the Blades had not messed it up early in the season , they would be in the play-offs. 4 points not bad but other teams have ground on the blades.

Good result tonight Coventry losing to Peterborough.

We are just 1 point behind them and as gash as we are, are picking up more points than them at the moment.

Just the small matter of winning a few games in a row and things could get interesting.

After the game the Sky presenters agreed that Coventry still have a "great chance" of getting in the play offs. And how shit were they? Very, 2nd half especially.

OK we are shit but I'm not sure there's a single decent, consistent team in the fight for 6th spot. Wilson's team, in both seasons, would have pissed this league.

I think we are only 3 points behind the tally we had at this point last season which shows that the division is a little more competitive this time around . The top 3 last season were head and shoulders above anything last season and I dread to think how far ahead they would be if they were still here this season. To be fair to the likes of Walsall and Gillingham they have improved a lot whilst the Barnsleys and Rochdales are also a little better this time out.

We on the other hand have gone slightly backwards and that's why we won't get in the play offs. There are better, more consistent and more professional teams than us in this league. Whats soul destroying about that is just how poor the standard of the league is. I often watch us and think "I'm glad only the 18,000 here will ever see this game" because the abysmal football on show can genuinly make me feel embarrassed that I follow a team participating in such a sub standard competition.

We're 6 points worse off than last season at this stage.

Doesn't sound a lot, but add 6 points on and we're currently 6th. Take 6 points away and we're 16th. 6 points can mean half the league in difference. Except that's really 12 points. But ya know what i mean. Kind of.

Brief islands of class today like the third goal surrounded by a raging sea of utter foaming liquid shite.

And yet somehow in touching distance of playoffs.

If we had had any consistent form this season we would be sitting pretty around where Burton are. So frustrating.

I think there's a good argument that our "form" shows a consistency in the standard of our team. Our results look how I'd expect a marginal winrate to look.

The good results we've had are no more the real United than the poor ones. We might as well say if our form had been consistent we'd be where Crewe are. The truth is that we are where are on merit - some good attacking players compensating for some poor defensive ones.

As long as there are more games left than points to make up, we have a chance.

4 points back, with 8 to play. Difficult, but not impossible. A big upturn in form is needed though.

I think we all knew what would happen yesterday.

Unconvincing win over Crewe to set us up for Millwall mkII against Southend.

It could be like this until the last game.

With Barnsley in 6th and still to play them an opportunity to is there but we have no form. If you recall, Wednesay only went up because of that amazing run under Jones.

We need similar but I'm not sure what the catalyst is here unless Billy or Che just hit this awesome purple patch and can put in one end more than what we can't keep out at the other. This is what you pay your 10-12k per week for.

Our form is nowhere near good enough.

There's plenty to be optimistic about for next season but we were a distant and totally ineffective second at Millwall and after we yet again squandered chance after chance 3-3 today would not have been unfair. Against a very poor team.

8 games. 5 against teams above us I think.
This is a challenge the team should be up for as you say Mr Foulkes 5 teams above we have nothing to lose as judging by this site most have give it up..Very disappointing so many have given up as the prize is still there, I can understand the frustration, but a bit of consistency now could get us there.,and as for being good enough who is? Ime sure we will have a go and it could be an exciting end to the season

I get excited after every win then let get let down in the very best game. Until Adkins gets a grip on that midfield we are not going to be consistent enough to mount a challenge. Teams run through and round it and forget it if Hammond and coutts play in the same side again.

Can't disagree with what you say Sheffield but it's still there for the taking we have to give it a go and who knows. As I said who is good enough all the teams involved have big weaknesses it's the team who has the consistant run who gets there we have a Gooder chance as
anyone. save the negativity for the end if we fail.

I predicted you lot to go up in May.

I thought it looked a weak division, but have been taken aback by how poor it really is.

Us Millwall fans were expecting a season of transition. A rookie manager trying to stop the rot of 2 years of poor management & player recruitment, having to rely on the academy kids that how look impressive in the FA Youth Cup & U21s, but facing men in what is in affect the Third Division.

I thought we had enough old heads & talented youngsters to ride up a bumpy season of flirting between 15th and 8th...but a play-off chance? Having to travel to so many northern grounds? No way.

From what I've seen & from what looks like coming down...if we don't go up via the play-offs I'm putting money on us to go up as easy Champions next year & a sneaky punt on Bristol Rovers joining us.

As said before, have a soft spot for the Blades, from living off London Road...but what the fucking hell are your board doing? They've made a right pig's ear of your club!

I actually think we've got 4 players you should have targeted - given their northern roots/base - in Beevers, Gregory, Ferguson & Taylor.

I'm not going for that self-flagellating woe-is-me crap just an assessment of how we are playing.

Rochdale and Fleetwood we were great and created loads, and first half yesterday we (again) should have had 2 or 3 or 4 but we have to play teams above us who are doing well: Walsall, Gillingham, Barnsley, and (to a lesser extent) Coventry.

Recently when we've done that - Burton, Wigan, Millwall - we've been a distant second best.

There is plenty to be optimistic about - but I think turning yesterday's first half into
  • 90 minutes
  • consistently
  • over several games
  • against even half decent teams
is perhaps beyond us at the moment.

That said, if I was manager I would doing my best to find a way till it was mathematically impossible.

Surely that's what Adkins is doing
Mr Foulkes

This pattern is getting boring. Win a game at home and the play off threads appear, play the next game, put in an absolutely disgusting performance and the useless cunts threads appear. We all know what's going to happen Wednesday. I am putting my life savings on southend to win. I stand to win 34 quid.

I agree that's what he's doing.

But just looking at it realistically I can't see us putting together a run. Which is different from motivating the players to do their best and keep alive our slim chances.

Someone said we can't even be consistent for 90 minutes atm. I think that's right. If only we could!

Plenty to be optimistic about - but I'd be amazed if we ended up in a play-off spot at the end of all this.

Who knows - maybe we're owed, but it would take some kind of divine intervention.

UTMB :)

Of course it depends how other results go but I think we'd need to win 6 of the following

Southend (a)
Walsall (h)
Gillingham (h)
Chesterfield (a)
Shrewsbury (a)
Barnsley (h)
Coventry (a)
Scunthorpe (h)

Now on paper, yes, we're bigger than those clubs, more fans, bigger budget, and they could look like a winnable set of fixtures to an outsider or a happy clapper. But if we're honest the team has given us no signs at all that we're good enough to win 6 of those 8.

It's only because this league is so poor that we're still in the playoff chase mathematically. Just look at Burton they could win this league having lost 10 or more games!! The only other time that has happened in the last 10years is the year we lost to Yeovil in the playoffs, when Donny Rovers won the league. Another season when we had no excuses not to go and dominate such a shit league.

Think it should have been a competition for who scored most goals in the first half yesterday, us or Coventry. Don't think I've ever seen such a one sided first half in their game since we played err Peterborough.

On paper we should easily get into the playoffs and I am sick to death of everyone giving excuses for everything.

Squad too big, Adkins is shit, boards not invested, players don't care and that's not even scratched the surface of what's been use this year.

There really should be no excuses for this squad not getting into the playoffs and I and sick of it. This squad is good enough and they need telling before they go down to Southend and chuck it all away again.
