would seem to be the suggestion from CW

CB and CM AS we knew and he doesn't seem convinced with the No10 role nor No9 so competition for Carruthers and duffy and maybe a replacement for Clarke is how I read that interview

Wilder name checked Mendez-liang, hoillet and zakore in his interview.

Seems to me he knows we are missing some proper pace and power up top.

He's still questioning if we are strong enough at number 10 in this league imo.

And knows we still need a solid athletic midfielder and obviously a defender.

If we can tick those boxes then it could be a successful season. Imo if we don't have the cash to buy outright then we need to utilise the loan system better and take some of the top talent teams are willing to loan out from say Chelsea or Man City.

Was there any discussion regarding bringing more than one CB in given Stearman's injury?

Didn't seem to be to be fair.

Guess they still need to see how bad it is - mentioned hamstring which doesn't sound like it'll be a quick one.

Hopefully it will push forward our recruitment as atm we'll go into Saturday without a recognised cb on the bench - might mean brayford features?

Really feel like the club could do with a lift for sat and getting one or two over the line could help.

He knows what we need.

We know what we need.

The board knows what we need.

...will the resources be available to get what we need?

That's the question.
I think the lack of new recruits is because we're being priced out of the market!! I M H O. I hope wilder can utilise the loan market as I'm thinking this is the only way of bringing anyone in?. I M O. Only time will tell though!!. 3 points on Saturday would be a good start to get the season going!. In wilder we trust. Utb

The CBS he's targeted ie Coady and lenihan are mobile ones and it even seems to be up for debate as to whether or not they are even CBs or CMs. This would suggest it's Bashams role that CW is looking for competition on.

Stearman is the main man who sits allowing the left and right CB back to push on.

His wording seemed to suggest he's not convinced with Carruthers and Duffy and I would say reluctant to rely on Brooks. Hence maybe someone creative in the hole.

As No9 I think we have one in Evans but I wouldn't complain at the addition of raw pace and power on a permanent preferably

As it stands Lundstram is next in line for CM and will drop down the pecking order when Leonard or whoever signs but not sure where Thomas fits in so far seems to be close to dropping off the bench. All for a deep squad with competition though

What the fuck did we recruit in the close-season if we now need 4 new players to take starting roles in crucial positions ? Don't tell me we are getting squad fillers at this stage !
Christ on a bicycle , CW himself brought in Duffy & Carruthers - and now he's worried about our no. 10 ?
15 days to get 4 quality players to walk into the first team and help us avoid relegation.
I wonder who prevented them being acquired earlier ?
It's a fucking tall order Chris.
Don't see you sleeping much till September , mate.

Well to be fair to him he's been saying CB and CM all summer and he also said to use August to see what else needed to be done. See Moore last august as an example of this.

Think the plan last season worked Duffy in to play 10 and help us out of the league he didn't see him as a Championship option hence the signing of Carruthers in Jan to see us over the line and the fact he's opted for Carruthers over Duffy so far that and maybe fitness.

4 additions would see us sitting very strong IMO

I know CW wants 4 players from that interview.

But 4 players at championship standard cost £1million each... have we got that to spend?

I don't think much will be made available if we're saving some for the JTW. Thing is, by that time, it could very well be too late.

err...we're just a little bit short. Can we pop the rest of the money in next time we're passing? (That's what I say to the local newsagents and they usually let me off with it).

You make it sound like "heir to the throne". I must be honest, I'm beginning to wonder what the purpose of signing Lundstram was? He's not really played him much and from the bit we've seen of him he looks painfully slow with a fondness for going sideways and backwards. And if he's now saying we need more quality in midfield, that must be an admission that he doesn't think Lundstram is going to fill that gap. So what have we bought him for?

I've a bit more confidence in Thomas. From the bits I've seen of him, he has energy and pace and is always looking to have a pop at goal. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a bit more game time.

£1M? Assombalonga, Clucas 15 and 10 respectively to name but 2. The market has gone mad and will only get worse in the next fortnight. Wolves probably want 3 plus for Coady.

Tufty has been big on team spirit, wages, not paying over the odds and may well have backed himself into a corner if he wants to bring in the quality we need. We probably need to spend in excess of 5M to get the 2/3 we need but there's more to it than just finding the money.

100% agree! To get in decent players its going to cost that. But we know we're not in the market for those players. We are shopping in the same stores Barnsley and Burton are shopping in.

Which is why we cannot complain when we end up near them.

Hanson, Lavery, Lundstram , Basham, Thomas, Clarke, stevens , are these players good enough? Add to those Sharp, Fleck , Laverty, that's 10 players right there. That's a little worrying. Have we prepared for the championship properly! Has Wilder been too loyal and not ruthless enough? Ten games in, we might know better.

You actually said Fleck !! Haha

Clarke and Hanson were for last season and won't figure much I don't think. Carruthers was definitely brought in with a view to this season but the jury is still out on him seemingly.

Lundstram is a strange one, cover for Coutts maybe but he doesn't seem to be one who you'd think is going to make a difference, or pushing for a start.

It will be interesting to see what he does on Satdi but it already looks like boom or bust for a few players.

I like Fleck, but he has looked slow so far.
He has but remember he started slow last year too.

For me there's only really been two, maybe three, players who look comfortable physically and that's Evans and O'Connell plus the most surprising is Coutts. I thought he might be a bit weak given his past fitness issues but he looks at home in this division.

We're paying the price of spending six years in Division One. We know we can't compete with the likes of Wolves, Middlesbrough etc. so we've got to rely on our legendary fighting qualities to avoid a relegation struggle. If you get into the PL, you can 'splash the cash' as major incoming money is guaranteed for several years to come. This isn't the case in the Championship and, as Wendy are discovering, big spending guarantees nowt. In a way, I'm not displeased that the current squad are falling short - a good start to the season would have seen the board even more reluctant to invest.

Let's be strong. This is a whole new ball game for the players, for CW and for some of our fans.

I think he has kept loyal to last years team/squad, i think we will start to see changes at the weekend.
Wouldn' be surprised to see Ched up top with Lavery in the hole just playing of his shoulder, and maybe a place for Brayford.

I'm thinking we should sign two attacking players now. There are doubts about all of our strikers and it looks like Hanson's leaving which will free up space. There are also doubts whether the supply to them will be good enough without playing with wingers, and the wingers/wide options we do have aren't convincing. I can see us going 4-2-3-1 away from home soon and we don't have good enough options for it.

We also need another CB and Stearman's injury might force the issue somewhat.

Then possibly a central midfielder.
I'm also wondering what the point in signing Lundstram was. Is being a slightly better ball player than someone like Leonard enough to justify an (expensive) additional midfield signing? I think we could have signed a ball winner whose ball playing ability is better than Lundstram's ball winning ability, and keep it to one signing in that area. We also have Whiteman to factor in after January. Maybe we could sign someone on loan until then.
