just now...
I feel sorry for Weir, his vision of how he wants us to play is great, i would like us to play that very way also but we simply don't have the players or the budget to buy the right type of players required to play a such formation that needs 'off the ball' movement & creativity. heck we barely have the players required to play a basic 4-4-2 like how Bradford set up today that's how poor our whole squad is right now! Lyle Taylor is not good enough to play up top on his own, and i believe nobody in our squad is capable of playing the No. 10 role consistently good enough and that role is vital to this system!
But having said that short term and with a couple new faces i think that's the way we need to go (4-4-2) until Weir has gotten rid of the sh*te we currently have on our books and brings in the right type of players for the 4-2-3-1 formation. I would suggest we should go from here on with a simple 4-4-2, we need to have two wingers out wide as much as possible with the instructions to be as 'direct' as possible, just running at the full backs their up against and get as many crosses in as possible personally out of the players we have these two would be Brandy & McFadzean then i'd have the d-line pushed up fairly high but to play that way either Collins or McGuire would have to be dropped, we would need to recruit a center back who possesses enough pace to cover any balls through or over the top of our back line, we would need all the midfield and front two pushing on attempting to win possession back as soon as we haven't got it. for this Coady or McGinn are fine for me to play in the middle but either one would need somebody different next to them so that being said Doyle would need to be dropped he simply isn't the required personnel to fulfill this duty and we'd need him replaced with a Shaun Derry or like today's opposition a Gary Jones type player somebody who would harass the oppo's midfield putting them under pressure. and lastly our front two would be exactly like Bradford's a 'target man' and 'poacher', Lyle Taylor for me needs to be given the chance to play the latter role for us to determine whether he's good enough to be the one to score the goals we crave. atm i don't think we have anybody good enough to be the bullish target man we'd need, so that would be one position we would need to add to also.
There's some players i haven't even mentioned, sadly for me Jamie Murphy just isn't good enough he needs to moving on if possible aswell as the likes of Williams & Higgo.
Maybe this sounds all abit 'football manager'ish' but it's what i would do if i was in Weir's shoes right now..
anyhow thoughts??
