3rd Goal

We are so niaive it's a joke. Every opposition player milks every non existant foul and time wasting opportunity while we run around pointlessly trying to stand up. Another abject failure by management not "playing the game". Be honest and miss out on promotion or cheat and go up. That simple.

Lets be real, Mcatee stayed on his feet and even managed to get a accurate forward pass away to Ndiaye.

It was Ndiaye who then sloppily gave the ball away and then turned and watched them race away from him and score ( a la Wrexham when they scored their 3rd)

They’d still have won because they were better than us

The ref played advantage, McAtee even passed the ball to Ndayie. We'd have gone mental if the ref had blown up.

The fat that we then lost the ball with players charging forward and out of position is not the referees fault.

We got what deserved last night which was nothing

It was Jebbison.

It was Jebbo, not Ndiaye.

Sorry ur right was Jebbo but still point stands Mcatee got a decent pass away to his intended target and only then we didn't protect the ball well enough is what caused them to score.. not the foul beforehand.

"play on, play on..."

As other posters mentioned, I'm not sure what "advantage" there was. The player who fouled him has already got back in front of him, and now he's run into a crowded midfield. Ridiculous decision. And Hecky is correct that even after they tackle Jebbo, he's got his hand up.

This. Was a foul on McAtee. He rides the challenge, takes a couple of touches, passes to Jebbison (didn't look like Ndiaye on the replay), who takes a couple of touches, then Boro do what we didn't do all game and put in a challenge. Exactly how many touches of the ball should we freely have and the ref then pull it back?

Conceding the third goal was completely down to Jebbisons lack of awareness. He was surrounded by Boro players, everyone was breaking forward, he had time for one touch, which should have been out to the left wing for Lowe to chase down. He fucked about, lost the ball and left us hopelessly exposed at the back as we pushed out, searching for an equaliser.

There was an advantage, but Jebbison lost it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m conflicted on this. I hate all the diving and chucking yourself around to buy free kicks (and include Billy in this as he does his fair share) but when you see teams effectively punished for trying to stay on their feet it really annoys me. Refs really have to get a better grip of this aspect of the game. This is not a Blades tinted specs thing more a general observation

Dunt really matter. We were never scoring another anyway.

I mean this is the crux of the matter. Blaming the ref in this one is avoiding the point that we played complete wank for 75-80 minutes and the opposition wanted it more all over the park

It needs attacking from all angles though, it has become "accepted" because nobody apart from fans call it out. For Anel's booking last night the co-commentator was saying he'd caught him, then it shows a replay where there's no contact and the guy has just thrown himself up in the air screaming and instead of correcting himself the co-commentator says "yeah looks like he just catches his toe there!"

Are you kidding me?!! His fucking toe!?!?!? If pundits and media started calling it out for exactly what it is, cheating, then the negative attention would gain more and more traction and force the powers that be to try and do something about it. The fact that pundits defend it all the time means it is now "part of the game" which is just ridiculous.

While we're at it when their bloke legs McAtee up early in the first half because McAtee is about to break away I'm fed up of hearing commentators chuckle and say "well I think that's what is called a professional foul nowadays!" The people commenting on the game become part of the problem by justifying it. There is no attempt to play the ball, it is a calculated and deliberate act of cheating. Call it out, create negative attention and force change to improve the game!

It can be both though can’t it. The problems highlighted for their third goal can be true while at the same time may well not have changed the final result. The issues with diving/staying on your feet is a wider issue than that one incident and while we were shit needing one goal to get a point or two does impact on what happened after. You’re probably right that we’d still have lost but we don’t know that.

Robinson plays a massive part in the 3rd very poor line he was in line with Egan when they first got the ball.Screenshot_20230216-103610_Samsung Internet.jpg

Clutching at straws blaming the ref last night.

Smith kicking out at McAtee as he ran past not getting a red car. Clearly seen and replayed couple of times. No different from Jebbo sending off if anything it was worse.
Bloody big straw that is. Would have changed the whole game.

Yeah we couldnt score and if we take our chances its a different game we could have won for playing badly again.

Just forget Boro they mean nothing its what the Blades do in the next few matches. 7 points clear game in hand they still need to win 4 games and we lose 4.

Inside the ground, I was furious. Similar to Heckingbottom.
Watching back on the replay, a lot less so.
McAtee has got a pass off, Jebbison (I think) has controlled it and then given it away. There's quite a bit of time before the original foul and advantage ending.
Could have gone either way.

Probably should have blown but we need to do so much better than getting undone by one pass in behind.

I’m not suggesting the length of time they play advantage in rugby for example but there needs to be a clear advantage develops before the original offence is waved away. The fact we lost the ball within a second or two isn’t long enough to show a clear advantage had been achieved in my opinion
