A couple of years ago I helped clear out an elderly relatives house after she passed away and came across an old newspaper.

Blades at home to wet spam in a 4th round reply, just look at the crowd.

Hope you can read them.View attachment 74560View attachment 74561View attachment 74562View attachment 74566

I went to that match as a kid just turned eleven and on my own , as I had been allowed to do since the age of 9 because my old man's health / job schedule meant that he was unable to take me , and I remember it well .

As Silent says , it was the day the king died and there was some doubt as to whether it would be played before I set off for the ground . Thankfully it was , as the Blades produced a truly scintillating performance that day , particularly in the first half , orchestrated by Sir James and aided and abetted by our goalscoring wingers Ringstead and Hawksworth

I seem to recall that their goalkeeper Ernie Gregory made a rick for one of our goals but then produced a string of fine saves which kept our score down to 4 rather than the 6 or 7 it could easily have been .

Not quite up there with the Newcastle victory but another truly memorable FA cup performance from the Mighty Blades .

Football was different after the war. Fans weren’t as discriminatory.....also there’s wasn’t much away travel.

The fashion was......if you could afford it......you’d go to any big match in the area.
So many 1000’s of Blades used to go to Hillsboro and many 1000’s of Owls used to visit Bramall Lane.

Most men worked on Saturday mornings so going to away matches wasnt an option.

Big Mal at centre half for the cheats. Notice no females in the crowd, and first time a white ball was used in Sheffield. Think the Gateshead game must have been played at Roker or SJP. Following season they got to the Quarter Finals.

29,500 at Brentford! Not sure how they’d fit so many into griffin park!

Also no flat caps being worn..why's that then ?
🤔

Don't think so but it's there last season there. Great little club. Sometimes visited them when I was working in Hounslow.
Yeah love going there. But why does it piss it down every time I go there

If I introduce Chedwyn Evans to this thread we might get 39,000 to reply. OK, Brexit and a certain virus. Nailed it ;)
