Take a bow Blades fans.

Highest attendance in the division.

Inthe country, beaten only by Man U, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Our support truly is magnificent.

In these times of austerity and everyday folk finding a way the backing our fans manage to bring to the team is truly remarkable.

Very good. Let's hope some return on Saturday. It is 'bring a friend for a tenner' for season ticket holders, so hopefully that and the win yesterday can add a few thousand more.

Got to give credit to the Sunderland fans as well, travelling what is not an inconsiderable distance to sellout their end (i think?) on boxing day, after half a season, or more, of absolutely dire football.

Ours is one of their shorter away trips, they also have larger crowds than we do.

There's an article on the BBC site at the moment about which premiership clubs have the most difficult christmas period, including the most miles to be travelled by away supporters. Newcastle come top, i'm guessing the north east is not the easiest base from which to be a football supporter. It says a lot for Sunderlands fans that they still get decent crowds after dropping an entire division in the space of a few months, with very little light at the end of the tunnel.

Don't have too much sympathy mind, but in a world of top four glory-hunting supporters, I appreciate proper football fans wherever they are to be found.

It's always great to see the ground full again. Especially after those six years down in the depths, with only the big cup games really pulling them in.

But 30,668, for a sellout near as damnit, in a ground whose notional capacity is 32,702, still reflects piss poorly on the authorities we are forced to answer to (and the architects of the Pie Stand).

My maths is poor. But 2,000 unused seats means something like 6-7% of capacity is routinely closed off ?

Agreed, but it was pleasing to see John Street fully used. I had anticipated the bottom corner being closed off.

One other issue was the supporting pillars on the Kop. The only spare seats on the stand could be seen around these, albeit this is less of an issue than the 1000+ seats closed off with no possibility of being sold.

I'm wondering if we should build a load of fake, unusable seats around the periphery of each stand, so the powers that be can close them as part of their power trip. Then we could use the actual seats that they close off for no good reason.

must be a bit of a bummer knowing it took a massive makem presence to give you top spot.

only joshing chaps, good crowd for 2nd flight footie, only 611 Bolton at riverside today.

Our support is brilliant - and let's not forget the 20k that turned up every week for 5 years to watch an average third division team.

Yet all we hear about from the wider footballing community is the 'incredible' support of teams like shitty Leeds and the likes of Forest and fucking West Ham.

Let's see how many they'd average over 6 seasons in League One. Sunderland included.

Up the Blades!

Sunderland only brought 2,219 to Bramall Lane where as we took 3,039 to the Stadium of Light.

Also when Sunderland visted Hillsboro earlier in the season they took more than yesterday, it was 2,714 for a Tuesday night game.

That was kop corner yesterday. Whoever designed that should have been sacked. Can’t believe it was given the go ahead.

Agree it’s not good looking but what’s the alternative?
The Kop and JS stand have 2 different rakes.

The idea was to create much needed extra seating at the lowest cost and keep entrance from within the John Street stand.

Bolton pigs and Leeds coming up all around 30k plus attendance's. Still got villa forest and middlesbrough to come with big away support and possibly Warnock's Cardiff visit depending on league positions and form , at least 7 big games left at the lane our average could end up around the 27/28k mark.

Those sat in top right hand corner don’t even look like they’d be able to see the goalposts in front of kop?

Think that poxy little corner should be boxed in like the other end of kop is going to be. It is a modern aberration of architectural merit......and its shite to sit in too.

Iys not the worst view in that corner and it has a fantastic view of the kop

Got to give credit to the Sunderland fans. Their jeering the of fifth highest attendance in the country and giving a song of "I've got a shed as big as this" in a game against this year's relegation fodder was a dedication to irony most can only dream of.

True it has a good view from some of the seats but tot appears you can’t see the whole pitch from the top right as well as the top left judging by the picture of where the fans are sat. Considering what it cost (from memory a million - 2 million) it looks like there’s only a few hundred seats with an unobstructed view. I bet the money still hasn’t been recouped on it after all these years.

.
We had more than 3,039 at the SoL because there were quite a few, like us, who who weren't part of the official number of away fans, as has been the case at a few away games! ;)

Biggest home crowd since Feb. 7th, 2009 v. pigs (30,786). Nearest since are Sept. 18th, 2009 v pigs (29,210) and Oct. 16th, 2011 v pigs (28,136).
Also bigger than Mar. 9th, 2014 v Charlton (FA Cup Quarter Final - 30,048) and Jan. 28th, 2015 (v. Tottenham, League Cup Semi-Final Second Leg - 30,236).

Total home crowds this season - 318,020. :)
