Tough week ahead, and according to the Official site there aren't any players on the way in either. We seem to be working on a striker, although we do have three fit ones, and at least two of them should be able to fill a lone striker role in case we have to go with one up front. We do have the wingers to make a 4-3-3 system work, so I'm not too worried about that.

The article says McCabe put pressure on Blackwell to get rid of two players before signing Stewart and Harper.

Say we lose Morgan for a couple of weeks. We will probably line up in defence with

France Walker Kilgallon Taylor

If Killa also gets a knock, I suspect it will be

France Walker Taylor Stewart

Or

Monty France Walker Stewart

While Fleetwood will like that one, it looks a bit patched up! Will it do against the pigs?

What happens if Monty France Walker Stewart then get injured and 25,000 Blades fans get injured.... Crikey what happens if the world implodes.... :D

Seriously though, Morgs would not allow himself and Killa to be injured at the same time.

I think the rule is that they take it in turns to get injured but never at the same time.

Plus Killa's injuries are normally hair dye related

I may sound like I am panicking, but I'm pretty calm and analytical about it. I'm just interested in what our realistic options are. Maybe Taylor will have the game of his life at centre half against Sodje and Tudgay...

"The article says McCabe put pressure on Blackwell to get rid of two players before signing Stewart and Harper".

It also says that he managed that by offloading Sharp and Hendrie, as though that's a straight swap and the kitty has now already been spent. What about the extra money we raked in by selling Carney and Bromby for reportedly £800K? What about the £2.8M we didn't spend on Smith and McIndoe? What about the wages we set aside for Leroy Lita? Not to mention the £6M we got for Naughton and the £4M for Walker. Are we just supposed to forget about that?

It's alright McCabe saying he will back Blackwell in January but we really need the players now. No way is a squad of 17 fit players going to be deep enough to get promotion, even Burnley used more than that. Let's hope that the players Blackwell is reportedly holding out for are worth the wait!

A point i,ve been trying get across for weeks the squad isn't big enough forget January we have 4 full months of fixtures 19 games what about suspensions? W need cover hope there are some young lads ready

Calm down, calm down. Bring in a centre half and another striker on loan and we're fine. The centre half cover is more of an issue, but we have a couple of people (in the likes of Walker, Taylor) who could slot in for one game.

Sod the injuries. Harper will rip the Pigs to shreds!

I'm thinking playing it like this.

Bunn

Morgan, Kilgallon

Montgomery
Cotterill, Harper, Quinn, Stewart

Ward, Henderson, Evans

Gung-ho!

2-5-3 formation like table football!

From a different thread:

Went to watch united players train this morning

Very much doubt Killgallon will be playing as he went down in training and later said he had sprained his ankle

*Feels a little bit sick*

If we line up with those two defences Wednesday will score a minimum of two goals and I don't fancy us scoring three at the moment. Quite simply, France & Taylor are not centre backs and if we're going to desperate measures I'd rather Henderson, Harper or Little played CB than Taylor who would get bullied and out battled by a big oaf like Leon Clarke.

Don't forget the restrictions on the amount of loan players we can have on the pitch and in a match day squad.

I haven't forgot Bergen. We are allowed 5 in our matchday squad and currently have 3 in the sqaud. That leaves us with 2 possible spots for loanees: a striker and a centre half. Problem solved.

We have 4 pal Bunn, walker, Treacy and Harper is a loan i think???

It does look a bit threadbare when put like that. Jonathan Fortune came through 60 odd minutes in the reserves this week, and I assume the reason we were happy to let Bromby go is that we are still intending to hand Fortune a contract, so he should help to plug any central defensive gaps.

Sure, sure but we have other options. We have cover for Bunn, Walker, Treacy and Harper in the form of Bennet, Taylor (with Knight or Naysmith playing left back) Rhys/Little, Quinn/Williamson.

Having 6 loanees in the squad is no big deal. We can always drop one of the loanees and bring in a permanent Blades player (as in the option set out above).

The squad is a little bit thin. However I am much more pleased with it than this time last year. Blackwell has gone for quality not quantity.

Blackwell said on Radio Sheffield that someone might be arriving ahead of the Derby game. He also said ourselves, Newcastle and 'Boro are all looking at the same 4 or 5 players.

Heard on SSN this morning that Mexico striker Franco is in talks with 5 Premier League clubs and a Championship side. Maybe we could dream and think that the Championship side is us :).
