Sorry to indulge myself but I was bristling with pride yesterday and just wanted to share the reason.

I went to the match with my two sons and my grandson (his first match at 2yrs 10months). 3 generations of Blades together. Heart was bursting out of my chest. He was well taken with the whole day and loved seeing the pitch and players. He got a few grandad treats in the shop and we’ve done him a montage with his ticket, program and photos. ❤

Tbh he lapped it up for the first 40 mins and loved it when we scored with everyone cheering, then he fell asleep until the end of the game.
He's a bit to young yet but if he kicked off we were prepared to leave early to stop it spoiling others day. I started taking mine at 4/5yrs old and they were fine with a full 90 mins.

I like this kind of story. I go with my dad and this season is my son's first as a ST holder (he's 7). We've only managed to attend the odd start of season or Christmas game the last few seasons due to living overseas. We also take my nephew who is 6 and it's his first ST as well. They get a bit bored at times but they now watch the game for the majority and piss about for small portions.

I think 8/9 seems to be the optimal age for them actually understanding what's going off speaking to friends with kids. What they don't realise at the moment is how lucky they are to have this current team as an introduction to the Blades. If it was the Adkins era I don't think I'd have a chance of getting him to go every week.

I took my son to his 1st match when he was 3,on reaching top of kop he looked at me and said "I wish we had a garden as big as this dad"

Tbh the most meaningful 1st game was taking my youngest son at 5 in 1988. He nearly passed out from 3 coats, 2 scarfs and double gloves.
Since then it’s was failure after failure at Wembley, Cardiff, Wembley etc until eventually, we got to the PL and it was so downhill from there I honestly never thought we would get back to PL in my advanced years.
Thats what made yesterday so special since that proud day back in 1988.
You're not stealing my thunder, if I make my 80’s I might just make 4 generations like you

of the 5 of us one died at Burnley and the eldest used to play football , blade but doesnt really go , saw us beat wednesday 7/ 3 though
But its more like a religion than just being a fan
My dad was a regular all his life went to the 36 cup final, my grandad saw us win the cup in 25

I don’t have grandkids - a way off yet (I hope!), but I know the feeling of pride you refer to from when I started taking my kids and they became interested in it. I think mine were 6 and 9 when I first took them. So old enough to understand what was going on, although that didn’t prevent loads of stupid, basic questions all throughout the game, from my wife!

I forget that we’ve got a whole generation who can’t really remember the Bassett days and have only really seen the 2003 season, 2006 and the semi finals to give them a taste of ‘success’ until recently.
