A Tuesday night visit of Donny...

Early team news....

Ward and Bromby could both feature v Doncaster. Quinn back after ban, Webber (shoulder) hoping to be fit. No other new injury worries. :)

You'll all be delighted to know that tonight's referee is Alan Wiley.

Boos at the final whistle.

I await Foxy's verdict as I don't know whether we were really crap or Edwards was just putting his usual slant on things.

Not good enough today, played right into their hands constantly.

Most of the team had an off-day. Need a kick up the arse in time for Saturday.

Agreed, bad day at the office all round.

We look miles away to be perfectly honest and i can't help but think back to things which have been said this season (no more square pegs in round holes, recruting players better then what we have, entertaining football, replacement players in place before anyone is sold) and think that the powers that be at BDTBL have made the struggles this season much more difficult for the fans to take.

Still time i suppose.

Blackwells thoughts on Radio Sheffield:

Bitterly dissapointed.

A few players off the pace and we were too one-dimensional. Asked the players to move the ball quick and go wide.

Gotta start all over again.

Hurts to get mugged on a breakaway goal. Weren't bright enough, not good enough.

Lads have got to understand and be patient if it means we have to take extra passes, have to deal with the atmosphere.

Crosses too flat, weren't creative enough.

Lost 1 in 10 so there's positives, but major frustrations today.

Didn't want to put any pressure on Ward, but he needed to learn what we are about and he'll have learnt a lot tonight.

I normally wait until I have calmed down after a loss but we were really rrally crap tonight. Dare I say as bad as under Robson!

2 maybe 3, possibly even 11 new players needed!!!

Absolutely shocking, never once have i left a game before the final whistle but i couldn't stand any more of that.

Only positives of tonight were:
- Pigs lost
- Burnely and Preston also lost

What a piss poor performance.

Apart from not creating a clear chance, and Sullivan only making TWO saves in the entire game, what's frustrated me most is that when we went 1-0 down we looked a beaten side. The body language from the players told me we weren't going to get back into it.

The whole team is unbalanced, we've got a striker on the wing when we've only got 4 strikers anyway. We're one dimensional, all we do is play a long diagonal ball at Henderson. Everything we do is the same, and it's easy to defend against.

The the team selection, the tactics, the team spirit, it's just not up to scratch.

Doncaster were deserved winners, they played quite well even though they didn't have to. They were the only side looking to get the ball on the deck and play the game in the right way, I was impressed.

We played into Donny's hands simple enough, they packed the midfield knowing we'd be playing off knock downs and flick ons, simple enough. IMO we didn't get the ball wide enough until the end and the crosses were of poor quality. Neither keep had much to do in a scrappy game, Kenny did make 2 great saves (his only 2 i think) with the first still going in anyway.

I thought Ward looked alright, needs to get better knowledge of who he's playing with but that should come in time. I liked the way he got on the inside of his man most times looking to make a run.

Gotta say I disagree with this part, I wasn't impressed by Donny.

They played better earlier in the season when we beat em at their place.

For all the stuff talked about their standard of football, they looked to play it long an awful lot and misplaced a lot of passes.

Yes they played nice triangles for periods of the game and kept possession well at times, but overall I'd say they were a bit of a let down on their reputation and didn't live up to previous performances that I've seen from them.

I'm also pretty shocked they couldn't create any more chances.

Don't get me wrong, take nothing away from them, they played us the right way and got a good win... but the only thing that impressed me about them was their togetherness and determination that we weren't going to beat them.

.

I agree with you there Foxy, but i don't think they came to play their 'attractive' football, they came with a game plan to disrupt us and it worked perfectly.

RIGHT!!!!!

Im not one for getting all uptight about a match, nor am i one of the BOOOO! boys nor will i ever be. But after tonights match i am experiencing very very mixed emotions.

1) Bloody well done Donny Rovers! By far one of the best teams ive seen at the lane this season as far as passing and moving are concerned. Get a forward who knows where the goal is and you will be fine this season. Infact have a word with Mr. Blackwell and we may even have a couple that you could have for nothing!!

2) What the HELL!!! ok first half was pretty much a stalmate (Dont give a fuck if its spelt wrong, ive been drinking) One team like to pass it around and one team seem set to hoof it up field. nothing much is gonna happen. But second half where the hell were we? We couldnt pass, we couldnt move, we didnt run, we didnt have any shape, we didnt have any formation and most of all we had absolutely no players that had any intention of doing what is expected of them.

The only plus points for me tonight were the excellent food in the suite and the free bar that i took full advantage of.

At full time i was looking (And found) John Ryan, and firmly shook his hand. The best team won.

From my seat tonight it really does seem that there are some seriously deep problems with the team. Noone was talking to each other, i lost count of the number of times that 2 or more players went for the same ball. The arguments were rife throughout the team none so more clear than after the goal. Blackwell wasnt talking as much as he usually does and when he did seemed to be doing nothing ut arguing with said players.

Halford as a player i like, i think he does well (Apart from tonight) for the team. But anyone who thinks that we will kepp him has to be joking. Which is pretty much what he said when he was taken off for Hendrie.... something along thelines of "You must be Fucking Joking" and "Idiot" passed his lips.

My biggest worry is that he has a week and a half to sort it out otherwise the 90 years since the Wendy's have beaten us twice in a season will be gone and a new timescale will be starting. We will absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt get our metaphorical pants taken down and spanked for all to see, and that will quite possibly be the straw that breaks the camels back for a certain person, contract extension or not!!!!!!!!!

Goodnight Vienna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They definitely played better attacking football at home, but away from home they knew they needed to keep it tighter and more compact and ruin our long ball style.

They passed it so much better than most teams that have been here this season, the only reason they didn't create more IMO is because their lone forward in Price isn't good enough to be a striker at this level and bring others into the game.

I thought we were awful tonight. I know the football at the lane is never exciting stuff, but that was boring beyond belief. Everything was one dimensional - does anyone know what to do with the ball?

I don't think its just the Price isn't good enough.... They tend to pack an area with 7 or 8 players (generally on about half way at maximum)... which gives them plenty of options for passing the ball about. Problem is, for the pretty short passing... they don't tend to get anywhere. They scored as the collection of players sat in the usual position saw a rare quick opportunity to out number us further forward and attacked in numbers.

We on the other hand, played the percentages. There must be a happy compromise between the two styles.

Heees a gphreet reffferrree (sorry hard to talk with my tounge that far in my cheek) There will be a disputed penalty

And indeed there was a shout for one late on, and from where I was, it looked like a foul.

Boos at the final whistle.

Words cannot describe how unbelievably dreadful that was.

Not sure I don't disagree with you.

Can't disagree with that.

Did we ever get the ball wide? I don't think we did. I agree that we played into Donny's hands though. We humped it long against three centre-backs. Not the cleverest of thinking.

I agree with you there Foxy, but i don't think they came to play their 'attractive' football, they came with a game plan to disrupt us and it worked perfectly.

Yup, and then some.

They definitely played better attacking football at home, but away from home they knew they needed to keep it tighter and more compact and ruin our long ball style.

I think they didn't create more because they wanted a point and wouldn't sacrifice that by being more open. They got the goal and disrupted us even more afterwards. They did their homework and got it right; we didn't and must bounce back.

I'm going to get another set of cold drinks, and try to reflect further in a rational manner, whilst looking at Dementieva's arse on Eurosport. It's a crying shame that Ivanovic is out.

This is what this match has reduced me to. Vodka and IrnBru, with a cider chaser, and Eurosport. Actually, it could be worse.

We were utter crap.

That was probably one of the worst performances I have ever seen.

After performances like that I look at the paper this morning and think "how the hell are we in 4th place?".

Preston away next and god help us if we play like that again on Saturday.

We were crap, but I wouldn't go that far. I've certainly seen us a lot worse. That's not defending last night in the slightest :).

The thing that i fear if we carry on playing like this, is next season. Say we don't get promoted (which i doubt we will). How many out of 20,000 will, a) want to buy a season ticket next season, due to watching awful football, and b) a lot of people wont be able to afford it anyway.
