Interesting article and study by the Mail Online on club "bigness" for those who haven't seen it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-finally-settles-football-s-great-debate.html

We finish 24th - which given the past 5 years is bloody good, especially when we are ranked 13th in the country in terms of overall crowds.

Looking at this list does make me think back to 2006-2007. What an opportunity we had to really cement our place and kick on as a club...anyhow, that's for another thread!

What are peoples thoughts, you think 24th is realistic?

Oh, and also shows, contrary to what the pigs say and the myths the media like to peddle - there really is hardly anything between us and them - just a couple more league titles pre war and that league cup trophy.

There historic average crowds are just a whisker ahead of ours and that down to Hillsbrough being a bigger stadium and therefore being able to have bigger crowds for one off games and also give 7,000+ away tickets to the likes of Man United when int he premiership.

Us allegedly having less 'Global Fans' (it's based upon social media followers, most of whom will be in Sheffield) than the international powerhouses of Wigan, Blackpool and Reading tells us this is not the most eligible list we've ever seen.

I'm not sure how our income is lower than Barnsley's either.

What's the point in ranking all time trophies and crowds against the last 12 months income and bloody followers on twitter?

We've got more fans than Leeds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take that you scummy Leeds Bastards. Just wait till next time some wanker at work starts wittering on about how they're the biggest club in the universe and I can wave the daily Tory at them.

Whoops, that's done it. Bloody Daily Tory, can't believe a word it says

We once got 32k against York City , in a early league cup round now thats big , pigs got some league matches between 6k and 7k , in the seventies now that is small .

Think they mentioned this totally irrelevant list of stats on RS , therefore discounted it straight away. Also its taken from the Mail. IMO we have bigger fish to fry here and now , that counts in the history of SUFC , starting tommorow until we play Chesi.

Lets keep it up whatever happens the loyalty shown by our fans is second to none the support is fantastic through thick and thin and majority of other clubs must really envy us

what a crock of shit, global fans , who can say wether we are bigger in somalia than wigan , or that burnley have more fans in the phillipines than leicester, we are probably more heard of in China than most prem teams thanks to Chengdu blades but it doesnt mean fans in Peru follow us more than say Birmingham , utter conjecture
then the really funny one , player quality, surely that can only be based on league placing , , how do you compare Carzola to Silva , surely its personal choice . Then our players quality , say Flynn to giles coke, surely theres no definitive scale for stating an amount of quality
how can swansea , who have been big 5 minutes be classed above huddersfield who won the league title 3 times on the trot
its absolutely ludicrous

Arsenal's Highbury low
Arsenal left their historic Highbury home for the 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium in order to meet demand for tickets, but back on 5 May 1966 a 6,000 capacity ground would have been more appropriate. That night just 4,554 people watched Arsenal's top flight match with Leeds United and the crowd was so sparse that fires were lit on the old North Bank terrace in order to keep the few spectators warm on a cold spring evening. This shocking attendance was partly due to Liverpool's Cup Winners' Cup final with Dortmund being televised live at the same time, in an era when football matches on TV were few and far between, but is still a stark reminder to all Gooners that the good times shouldn't be taken for granted.

times change dont they

Not really. Every club has a record low attendance doesn't it?

Statistics can be used to suit whatever way that suits the need you want when it comes to tommorrows game statistics mean naff all. you cant win games based on stats

tell a manager statistics / results mean nothing

I was s
ayings results are the only quantifiable judge , world fan base and player quality is not quantifiable

It's ludicrous. Some of the rankings are laughable.

It depends on what factors you use of course but I would say we are a top 15 club. We have underperformed massively on the pitch in the last 40 years though!

So for a third of our existence we have been crap but still a top 15 club? There must be some real shit out there ;)

Unpopular manager Billy Wright got the sack by Arsenal not long after that

actually upto 1975 we had never finished below 11th in the second tier , hence our good league record
we still have spent
only 9 seasons outside the top 2 divisions

Think Arsenal was the only club never to have finished below 10th in the 2nd tier. I looked into this some years ago and I cant be bothered to check now!

Just been on a course at work you can call them scummy bastards but saying they are from leeds would have you in Hr for being racist :D:D:D
Same as we are allowed to denigrate our lady pig friends across the city for fear of upsetting the porcine population of this fair city (the guy running the course was a blade ):p
It were a reet good laugh all day
Not so much for my work mate he's a lady pig

Wednesday are 18th best for player quality? Jesus i'm awaiting the "we should be in the premier league" quotes from them.

Player quality is based on number of international players / caps etc. that have played for the club over their history.

6th all time? Surely not?

Yeah, amazing how we have actually won so many games but not really achieved anything! When you look at each season, as supporters we've not had to see our team really lose that many games as we've generally always been in the upper half of the 2nd tier going for promotion. you'd have though our fans would be a little happier with our win percentage over the past 20 years...problem is we always fall at the final hurdle.

In that case i declare this test, shite :D

Leeds was once in the Champions League, doesn't mean the club is at that standard now, its a silly 'experiment'

Everyone is in the league they are in by merit, including us.
