Big thumbs up to the 24k who turned up last night - I'm sue that we could all have found a reason not to go - weather, Sky TV, going to the local etc.
Did the gate get a mention on Sky TV anyone?
Contrast this to a certain hugh, na massive club who only managed 23k for a non-televised home game this season

I was at a very dreary work Xmas do, wish i'd have fucked it off and gone to the Lane instead. Seeing the result come in from afar did nowt to fucking cheer up my evening.

Looked closer to 20k to me. I guess that gives a definitive answer to the unused season ticket/attendance debate.

What? Your mistaken impression of crowd numbers is definitive? I thought 23-24k from my observations. I’ve seen 20,000 crowds at the Lane on countless occasions and there were clearly thousands more than that.

We count clicks on the turnstiles. That’s why the light goes on. That’s the definitive answer. What point or purpose in falsely inflating attendance numbers?

Didn't look close to 24k to me. Poor attendance and vocal support IMO.

It doesn’t matter what it looked to you! That was the crowd and it was anything but poor on a televised Friday night game against unattractive opposition. I agree about the vocal support but that’s normal, I’m afraid, at the Lane Library,

No chance 24k. There were loads of empty seats around me in the SS that are normally occupied by ST holders, there were gaps all over the central area of the kop which is normally full and the Westfield corner was "sold out" but only half full. There is no falsification as the season tickets have already been sold. The light goes on by the way to identify who is a concession ticket and who isn't. That's why there are different colours - the one on the swiper matches the one above the turnstile, which the steward is keeping his eye on.

Just look at the pig crowds, 24000 season ticket holders all have to counted even though only about 18/19000 turning up to many games. Friends niece works in Ticket office at Sty and says the footfall figures would be embarrassing. Apparently Sunderland attendances are nowhere the publicised figure. Noticed that when they were on TV . Think last night with conditions and being on TV there were maybe 21/22000 actually there.

Say no chance til you’re blue in the face and explode with frustration. That was the crowd! If it troubles you so much ask the ticket office manager or someone senior at the club. We do not inflate crowds. Nobody does. It’s a free gift to the tax man for a start!

The daft myths that football fans believe...

Nonsense. Claptrap. Bilge. Bollocks.

When they move it from a Saturday to a Friday night one thing the often happens is southern monkeys like me and I suspect a few others who live a fair few miles from Sheff give it a miss. Basically there's no public transport the get home afterwards and/or means taking a day or half day off work. Similar thing for midweek night matches. Will always be that way.

It sounds like its you that's going to explode with frustration as you jump on every post regarding this topic.

How can a season ticket which has already been sold be a free gift to the tax man? If you're compiling a set of accounts it makes sense to declare what you've sold. If you understate it then you're in trouble.

The daft myths that pseudo-accountants perpetuate.

Because it’s a different price! Of course I jump on it. It’s the sort of drivel that football fans spout when they haven’t a clue.

Anyway let’s put an end to this and ask someone senior at the club shall we?

Foxy, JimPhipps can you help?

The season ticket element of the gate is the same whether they turn up or not. Fuck me, what's difficult to understand.

Didn't know Foxy was someone senior at the club by the way.

The attendance is given as the number of tickets allocated (i.e. sold), regardless of physical attendance.

All football clubs do this, we were one of the last to do so to my knowledge.

I doubt there were 12000 empty seats. We have a guess the attendance every game and are rarely more than 1000 out. I said 24000 the boy said 25000.

Exactly the same. I spoke to about half a dozen people just before kick-off. All agreed 23,000+ then some more came in.
