With a little over 3 weeks to go before the transfer deadline day door slams shut, we know the blades still have some work to do. Since Wilder took charge its safe to say that the majority of our signings have been kept quiet until the deal is done. Despite a thriving rumour section, that I enjoy as much as anybody, its pretty rare that players who actually sign have much of a mention prior to them signing the contract. As a consequence speculating over individuals that are supposedly signing often remains as just speculation. However if we look at the 7 signings made since promotion was confirmed is there any patterns to narrow it down?

Age

For a while now our fans have been quick to criticise any older 'over the hill, last pay cheque, on the way down' types of signings (probably thanks to Dean Hammond), and that Wilder is after young 'hungry' players. However if you look at the 7 new arrivals the average age is just over 25, ranging from 22 (Thomas, who will be a bit part player) to 29. For me this shows Wilder wants players who are at their peak, bringing experience but some development possibility.

Division Signed from

The policy here seems clear; try to get value from the lower leagues. Only Stearman and Blackman have come from our own league or above. With the remainder all coming from League 1 (3 players) and League 2 (2 players).

Experience

Wilder seems more interested in how many games players have played, and what influence they have had on said games, as opposed to what level they we played at. The signings of Lundstram and Stevens perhaps highlight this best, both come in bang on form, full of confidence having been big players for their previous clubs.

Conclusions

For me we still need a couple of players, a Centre Back another striker and maybe a midfielder. Based upon Wilders current business evidence would suggest that any signing will more than likely be between 23-26, have played plenty of league 1 and/or 2 football, have had an excellent season last season- more than likely picked up one of their teams player of the year awards.

So I ask 2 questions:

Are there any other attributes that Wilder considers non-negotiable?

With this in mind are there any players who we have not been publically linked with, that fit this profile, and you would like to see at the Lane?

We will be playing one tomorrow, Otzumer, think he could fit the mould quite well??

Duffy yes, Carruthers maybe, Brooks, hope not, wane see him flourish!
I'd like to see him in a blades shirt anyway, he was the only real standout player against us last season, in the only team that boffed us 3 times!! Good player in my opinion.
I'd love to see us bring in a proper forward, but with our budget, were fucked.
A big nasty centre half would be nice, but again, our budget doesn't stretch like that.

1.75m for the blackburn lad takes our spending over 5m

Those who decry the club need to grasp that the will is there

CW has targets . He said over and over there's more to come yet we still keep getting these I think we still need this añd that player threads

Let the boss do his job

Where did the other 3.25 go?

Before everyone starts jumping on the figures I have no idea how much they went for just going from Media reports.

500k Baldock
700k Lundtsram
300k Steersman
250k-500k Ched
250k Thomas.
Free Stevens
Free Blackman

2.25million approx.

Hope we can exceed the £5million mark, and I hope this is a continuous thing that we spend again in January and spend another £5million next summer. That's how we can progress and have a squad like Brentford's.

We have the players we want lined up we are just awaiting other transfers to trigger events no need to panic Wilder knows what he is doing.

Where did you get your figures from?

I thought Steerman was 'a substantial undisclosed fee' in the region of £750k to £1mil.

Baldock £300k

Lundstram £500k

I would say the initial outlay on chef is £250k.

Agree with your other estimates.

So at lowest estimate for Steerman our spending is around.

£2.05mill

If we assume all the 6mil is available from the walker and maguire sales. That alone would leave £3.95mil of that money alone. Let's also assume CW was backed with an original transfer budget of £3mil. That means we have could have roughly £7mil in the bank.

From a contact within the club i know for a fact the figures reported in the press for players is wide of the mark, for example 500k for ched, nowhere near what we actually payed, its nearer to 100k

300k Baldock
450k Lundtsram
400k Steersman
100k Ched
150k Thomas.
Free Stevens
Free Blackman

so i make it about 1.3 spent we will probably have about 5 6 in the pot left some of which will be ear marked for jan

A little surprised that your contact tells you exact figures but not their real names

Having paid about £750 for Steerman I can see there is another player, Steersman, who we arguing about.

If we take what we paid for Kilgannon, minus the sell on fee for MacGuire and add on half of Brookes value, we should be able to sort this.

Given that for as long as I can remember now United's transfer fees have all been released as 'undisclosed', it isn't unbelievable that the club don't want the public to know what we are paying or receiving for players and it would make sense to restrict the number of people even within the walls of Sheffield United who know what the figures are. My guess then is that the only people who know transfer fees at the point the transfer is made would be, Kevin McCabe, Wilder, contract writers, accountants, possibly board members but I would say that is a very slight chance. McCabe and Wilder are trying to keep the secret and the others are professionals who are likely to lose their jobs if they blabbed about the numbers they see.
So I seriously doubt that anybody else at the club has any more of an idea on numbers than we do.

Stearman - 500k
Baldock - 300k
Lundstram - 500k
Thomas - 200k
Evans - 200k
Stevens - Free
Blackman - Loan

Total: £1.7m

That's how I'd estimate it, based on what I've seen/heard and also what seems right.

Very surprising that we've only signed one free transfer.

Brooks is like a new signing though.

Think we should have at least £2m left in us.

300k for streaman. I wish!!

why do people keep posting our undisclosed buys at the lowst market prie possible
why do they think we are cheap skates and go around promoting that idea

we pay what we have to pay
Stearman was 1.25 m the fulham site has revealed which I posted elesewhere but these agnda driven nuts are carrying on this tight wads myth

saying we paid 300k for him is a big fucking insult to the player and the club

some on here want to hammer our boardat everry turn and put sme stupid bottom list price on everyone , which id like them to prove

These have generally been mentioned on here but…..

Patrick Bauer (CB, Charlton)(but might be too expensive)

Cian Bolger (CB, Fleetwood)

Darragh Lenihan (heavily linked- Blackburn)

Ryan Leonard (heavily linked- Southend)

Tony Watt (CF- Charlton)

Jordan Willis (CB/RB- Coventry)

Kyle Vassell (CF-Blackpool)

Kieran Agard (CF- MK Dons)

Charlie Wyke (CF- Bradford)

That’s all I can think of for now. Not sure they’d all be good enough but the seem to roughly fit the mould. Agard is a little older at about 27 I think but has done well in League 1 on several occasions.

You want a squad that lost to us?

;)

Just done a quick search for Stearman and both the BBC and Fulham FC (the club site not a fan site) have him as an 'undisclosed' fee. (I did spell Stearman wrong purposely but changed it back, I think we've done that one now!)
Same with Lundstram on Oxford United FC. The figures people are throwing around are probably from red top papers, you're not going to let The Sun put words in your mouths are you?

Why do you always put the highest possible market price- often complete fantasy figures and state them as if they are fact. There have been reports of £1million. I've seen none to say £1.25million.

The club mentioned an "undisclosed, 7 figure fee" for Stearman. So most probably £1,000,001.
