On Sky Bet they have us as favourites. While this means nothing, I thought some people may be interested in what is on offer. Think Swindon should be wider than 10/1

God that's a shite division !!

I can't see lower than 2nd position unless we lose all our squad.

Swindon or Crawley will win it

It really could be virtually any one of them.
- MK Dons were better than us come the end of the season
- Preston and Scunny will do much better this next season
- Cov will retain some good players
- Portsmouth will be interesting
- Donny will be solid if they have the same agree in place to have their mercenaries
- Swindon and Crawley will carry through plenty of momentum
- Bournemouth have lots of money to spend
- Brentford, Notts County, Stevenage all have ability

We're certainly not favourites in my mind. Especially given the uncertain nature of our squad and potential transfer dealings.

we threw it away this year. next year they will have better knowledge of how to get out of this league. I'm confident we will do it

Crawley are making some decent signings, are they exempt from this new ruling?! They only get 3000-4000 gates.

In no particular order, my guess at next season's top 6.

Preston, Portsmouth, United, Mk Dons, Notts County, Swindon

Go on then. Next season's top 6 (again, no particular order).

Cov / Blades / MK Dons / Scunny / Preston / Crawley

If Portsmouth are`nt out of admin by the start of next season, is that another 10 points they get deducted? Or is that the conference?

Coventry are in dire financial straights as well.

Given the squad we have at the moment (I know), we should be top 6 again. The questions for me are:

  • Can we offload the high earners who don`t fit into DW's plans
  • Can we get a decent LB to play until LFJ returns
  • Can we get some decent CB cover
  • Can we resign MacDonald
  • Can we find a 20+ goalscorer
It may be the lat one on the list that is the issue...

Blades, MK Dons, Preston, Notts County is my early prediction for the front runners.

Outside runners:- Brentford, Swindon, Carlisle and maybe Donny.

We're always going to be low odds purely because we are the biggest club in the division as it stands. I don't mean that to sound arrogant in any way, I just can't see a club bigger than us in that list.

The bookies odds are also based on money being backed aswell. They know if they put us any higher then alot of money will be piled on us due to the expectancy.

I wouldn't read anything into odds at the moment, as nobody has a clue what will happen to a squad over the summer. Players will leave that you expect to stay, and players will stay that you expect to leave. In a strange way, I'm really looking forward to seeing how our squad changes this pre-season.

Hopefully it's for the better and we develop a strong squad, rather than being over-reliant on one or two players.

It does look to be a poor league but then we are a poor side. I'd put us closer to 14/1 with MK Dons, Crawley and Swindon all likely to be stronger.

When DW took over I asked my Swindon Town supporting mate what he thought of him. He gave me 3 points;

1) DW likes a big man up front.
2) Watching Swindon under DW was often like watching Brazil.
3) DW lost the plot after losing the play off final when he was forced to sell his best players and ended up leaving the club in a far worse position than he found it.

I think it safe to say we've experienced 1) and 2) I just hope we don't see 3)

I've got a feeling we'll do sod all 2012/13 (mid table), improve 2013/14 (play offs) then win the title 2014/15. I'd like to think DW is still here to see it through.

my top 6 is sufc, coventry, swindon, brentford, portsmouth, mk dons

Unless something changes dramatically with regard to their finances I don't see Coventry or Portsmouth doing particularly well.

I know it's not known who's leaving as yet, except Simmo of course, but McCabe has already been giving us clues regards what's to happen next season. He wont be able to hold onto Maguire and Lowton if a decent deal comes in. Wage bill reduction and how more young uns are to be given their head (not a bad thing)

But on that basis, 6/1 favs is shambolic. We couldn't win promotion this season with what I would call a very strong squad for this division. What makes anyone think we'll be more capable next season?

6/1 however would be a decent price to make the play-offs. :)

I would have had us just sneaking into the play-offs.
6/1 are strange odds considering we will probably lose a number of players. Suppose it depends on how the young lads coming through perform.

I think Crawley will be a decent bet for Automatic promotion.

All these people suggesting that 6/1 is way too short should surely all be rushing off to Betfair to stand all of these bets, no?

and all these people suggesting that 6/1 is good value should surely all be rushing to back them to win it then?

I like a bit of a flutter, but I look for value.

I don't know what's in store for us a club, but I know what McCabe keeps intimating and therefore I don't make us 6/1 favourites

You pays your money and you takes your choice. I wont be backing us with my money, or even yours buddy

The key word is probably. If we don't we have a strong side, if we do our odds will drift.

If you think 6/1 is too short, get on bet fair and lay us (I.e. bet against us winning the title). According to some on here you'd think it was like printing money...

If we have to wait until 2015 for promotion, i'm pretty certain Danny will be long gone before then.

I haven't seen anybody suggest that it's good value, quite the opposite. I'm just pointing out that if people really think that, they could put their money where their mouths are.

- MK Dons were better than us come the end of the season
really?? seeing as we only lost one game in about 12 (to them admittedly) i can't see it

- Preston and Scunny will do much better this next season
Preston are going to storm the league every season.. they never do.. scunny might be worth watching out for .. unless we could get that midfielder of theirs that scored at the lane

- Cov will retain some good players
they haven't got any though!

- Portsmouth will be interesting
Bust??

- Donny will be solid if they have the same agree in place to have their mercenaries
donny are in freefall

- Swindon and Crawley will carry through plenty of momentum
di Canio will leave after three straight defeats

- Bournemouth have lots of money to spend
if you say so

- Brentford, Notts County, Stevenage all have ability
but we beat all of them last year

chin up mate
