Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on the "sack him or keep him" debate, I don't think that anyone can say that this season has been anything more then a complete failure.
I found myself looking for a high point to our season as i skulked down Bramall Lane earlier today and all that i could come up with was the game against Ipswich. I then remembered that they have the worst away record in the league which dampened my spirits even further.
As is so often the case with Sheffield United, there seem to be many excuses for the current state of affairs. Relegation hangover, Tevez-gate, transition period, high expectations, bad pitch, impatient fans, lack of confidence to name just a few of the common diagnosis for our continued poor performances and results.
Strip away all of the propaganda and politics and you have a team of players and management consistently failing to perform over a period of six months (more then that if truth be told).
The Palace game was pure pantomime and whilst I have been frustrated for the majority of our home games this season, it was the first time that I have felt genuinely uncomfortable by the events as they unfolded.
I may be a bit of a softie, but I could not help but feel sorry for Mr. Robson when I saw a clip of him when the full time whistle went today.
So here we are, about to say goodbye to 2007; a year to forget for all blades made all the more unbearable because of the fantastic year which preceded it.
In the words of someone far more articulate then me, what is past is prologue. I’m hopeful that things will improve next year, forgetting the play-offs, promotion and the premiership; I just want to enjoy going to bramall lane again.
A very happy and prosperous new year to all, I’ll see you at the lane.
