Probably.Or as quoted from the club? There are some very minutely different fees to what the papers reported them as (eg Hulse’s and Carney’s that were reported as £2.2m and £50k in the press) and the reason is presumably because the club info was different. The fact that it isn’t listed as undisclosed for Beattie and is £4m, on a page from the official website, sure strengthens the idea that it IS £4m.
At a guess, there are elements of the Egan deal that would push the fee above £4m if certain conditions are met, but the differing accounts of the fee serve both the club and Wilder’s interests from when they’ve mentioned it: club last summer (“we’ve broken the club fee, look at this ambition”) vs Wilder (“we haven’t actually paid £4m, look at the value we got”)
In the 1970s I used to memorise the transfer fees that were quoted in the papers and I thought that they were accurate but since what I was told about the fee we paid for Peter Anderson I then realised that the fees quoted in the papers were mainly guesswork so nowadays I dont take much notice of the fees. Nowadays wages are much higher than the fees as we can see when they are published after the end of the season
