No this isn't a millennial version of 2 girls 1 cup! 🤣

But I would prefer us to play with 2 attacking mids and 1 up top, rather than 1 attacking mid and 2 strikers.

Probably the most worrying thing so far as Bergen Blade has pointed out is for the most part of the friendlies so far we've played without an attacking midfielder completely.

Was very noticeable in first half against Scummy that the gap between midfield and the strikers just wasn't working...

Arguably this is how we were playing towards the end of last season. My concern long term is depth in those positions, especially considering the 5 sub rule this season.

Ndiaye and Brewster can be seen as players who can operate in an ambiguous role somewhere between attacking mid and striker so we don't strictly have to be 1 behind 2 or 2 behind 1, it can be flexible and hard to define

A lot depends on Berge. If he stays and carries on in the same position it will be more like a 2 behind 1 but the exact personnel isn't all that predictable

Berge & Ndiaye behind Brewster. What worries me is we have no other option at the moment ther than Brewster who’s returning from a bad injury

Osula & Jebbison aren’t ready for 1st team yet

Hence trying to sign Khadra I wouldve thought...

Berge--Norwood--Khadra
Ndiaye
Brewster

Is probably going to be the ideal isnt it?

There are still 6 weeks of the transfer window to go. Let’s see what happens

Hard to play that when we don't currently have that type of player on the books. It could be a worry but I am sure we are looking to get someone in for that role, hopefully Khadra although I would prefer more than just one option.

As for Brewster I don't see him as anything but a centre forward, we need to play to his talent not ask him to do something that is alien to him.

Anyone truly convinced by Brewster being anything resembling a lone striker ?
As long as we're not smashing it 2ft above his head, he'll have Ndiaye and Berge within 10 yards of him, and Baldock/Bogle and Lowe on the wings. We've got to play to his strengths and if we do he'll be in for 15/20 goals. I'm assuming we'll set up as below:

Not bad, but Norwood cant play ont left, I think it will still be 352, but Norwood central, Berge and Doyle/Khadra more advanced, almost playing as a 3 with Ndiaye just behind/with Brewster?

Doyle Norwood
Berge Ndiaye
Brewster

Khadra and Fleck as options off the bench for me

Obviously hinges on Doyle being fit to start the season and Khadra signing of course, before I get any responses about that

I was assuming we buy Khadra and Doyle is injured, same as Bogle and Sharp are injured.
Sharp will be this seasons supersub I'd presume.....

Yesterday against a non league team the frailty of 3-5-2 was exposed first half. A flat 3 too deep and no out ball to a 10. The two young forwards lack of control didn't help but as always with 3-5-2 the build up play was pedestrian. Add in the back 3 getting caught out again by pace and balls over the top and it proved this formation just doesn't work for us unless we go back to Wilderball and have overlapping centre backs which Bash apart we don't currently have.

Ndiaye improved things immediately by dropping into a 10 second half but all 3-5-1-1 did was fill in the gap between midfield and attack. Only when Berge came on and we pushed up with 2 10's did we start to play.

We have to play with 2 10's in a 3-4-2-1 system with options to go 3-4-1-2 or even 3-4-3. The flat 3 kills our tempo in a 3-5-2 and IMO we will struggle if we start the season with this formation.

The suggestion that we are looking for 10's is encouraging. Khedra fits the bill but so does Doyle. Its interesting a number of people are putting Doyle in a deep lying midfield role yet he played 19 games for Cardiff as a 10 last season.
What is missing is the strong dominant forward to play up top. Brewster is an option but we need competition and as others have said someone in the Keinan Davies mould but without the injury record would fit. Our injury record suggests we need this extra forward.

I've seen too many team predictions that have been met with "well so and so is injured" or "so and so hasn't signed" so I was just covering myself 😂

Sharp will be great off the bench and can always rely on him to step into the XI if needed - this is also why I'm not adverse to signing Grabban as I think he'd be a huge step up off the bench compared with Osula/Jebbo, a lot of experience, reliable in front of goal, reliable on pens, can step into the XI if we're desperate and not lose too much up front

Very well said.

Are we even in for Grabban, or have I missed something??
Not seen us linked, so "just covering myself"! 😂

Nah not anywhere near officially, just speculation based on the fella who said we were in for an "ex-Miller, striker" he fits the bill so it makes sense with him just leaving Forest now

Seems to be a divisive one though

I'm hoping, if we do go for a striker, we could surely do better than Grabban......?

In that team, Norwood would be floating across the pitch taking the ball off defenders while Doyle will be the runner going box-to-box and offering an outlet for Norwood, and also providing the link between defence and attack.

This does rely on Doyle actually being fit.. Otherwise we'll be stuck with the ineffective Fleck/Norwood combo

"Norwood taking the ball off defenders" 😂😂😂
Brilliant imagination that man!

Khadra is a winger or second striker.

He isn’t going to be playing alongside Norwood.

At best you will have 2 from Khadra , Berge or N’Diaye behind a Brewster, Sharp etc.

Only other way is if Brewster doesn’t start and N’Diaye plays down the middle flanked by Khadra and Berge.

Norwood will start and then there is a huge question mark as to who partner him. Jimmy normally turns up for preseason and the first month, Osborn doesn’t normally play there, we don’t know if we lost Doyle in Portugal and Coulibaly looks like adapting but needs time.

Khadra can even play midfield or as a wing back too, he covers several positions, which is why Hecky is keen on him, by all accounts.20220717_134123.jpg
