The last report in this thread will be the first league match of the 1975-76 season. Am not going to create a thread of the 1975-76 season. We know what happened that season - but why ? Following on from our one of our very best

Too depressing!
Go for itToo depressing!
because we signed a 3rd division lump of a striker and changed our style to suit him and the cost of the new south stand robbed us of being able to spend on the 2 quality players we needed to have a crack at the first division title after playing some fantastic football in the 74/75 seasonGo for it
Rough with the smooth
Many people (that may be a blessing ) have no idea how we went from European contenders to cannon fodder - plus it was start of the total mismanagement that plagued us for years
Went to that game and sat in the BL upper tier .2/8/1975
Anglo-Scottish Cup Group C
Blades 3 (Badger, Eddy pen, Woodward) Blackburn 1 (Beamish)
My dad and I stood in the John Street Terraces East. Dont really remember looking at the South Stand. It was a hot day, I thought Chris Guthrie was a good threat in the air. The new shirts looked uncomfortable for our players to wear in this weather and I didnt think we really dominated the match , the score looked a bit flattering.

He played out of position on the left wing to fill the massive void of Salmons (and his long throw -the first I can remember at the club)We signed David Bradford from Blackburn Rovers for £10,000. Third time in 5 months Ken Furphy signed a player from his previous club!

i was at that leicester cup tie in 76 silent 3k blades fans crammed in like sardines in that corner at filbert st19/8/1975
We lost 3-1 at home to Arsenal, I found out the score from the older pupils at Mary Hare in the next morning. I wasnt expecting us to have a miserable season. We won only two league games before April (v Burnley and Villa at home in September and February respectively) and I dont have the enthusiasm to create a full thread of the 1975-76 match reports and photos in this forum. I did attend the home games when I was home for the weekend or during the school holidays, I even saw Jimmy Johnstone's debut at Stoke, I was at the awful 3-0 FA Cup defeat at Leicester too.
I wasnt sure if the sacking Ken Furphy in October was the right decision. My dad agreed with the decision and he had high hopes of Jimmy Sirrel saving our season. He was wrong as we went from bad to worse despite that we won four and drew once in the last six games (I was at the Leeds game when Woody scored the superb winner and the 3-0 defeat at Boro)
I also went to the Leicester game, which would have been my second away day. Odd what you remember from going as a kid. I can remember Jimmy Johnstone that day, plus Bob Lee bullying our defence....... and sitting in orange seats?? (We may have been in the home seating for some reason).19/8/1975
