The League Cup match v Southampton attendance seemed understated to me. All the stands were relatively full including the away end but the given attendance was under 22,000.

I don't know where the other 10,500 would have sat if we were allowed to sell all 32,609 seats.

Have you really got a seasons worth of kop photos on your phone? You must be a right "whizz" at parties.

The attendance figures are actually number of tickets sold, not number of people through the turn styles.

Calling it "attendance" is wrong.

A few years ago our near neighbours were so concerned why 3000 season ticket holders didn't attend a night match that they wrote to them all...maybe mr McCabe is writing as we speak

As a prominent ITK, my sources tell me that season ticket holders are included in the attendance figures regardless.

(Please keep this information just between us on this thread)

In the 1990s our official attendance figures seemed lower than it looked.

The Burnley cup game, they brought about 9,000 and filled the away end and including a thousand on the south stand. I was on the kop and it looked like both the SS and the John St were pretty much packed out. The kop felt like it but I did sit on the S in those days so it usually felt full. Regardless, the attendance of something like 21-22,000 was ridiculous.

The attendances for the home game against L**ds in Sept 1990 and the home game against West Han in August 1991 were deffo more than the official figure

Back in the day , one of our group was quite a stout fellow and as we rocked up at five to three he would bang on the exit doors. Following the sounds of unbolting, a querelous face would appear at the tiny aperture created and our man would brandish his ticket, stand back to allow them to take in the full aspect of his bulk, before advising said face he had to come in that way as he couldn't fit in the turnstiles.

Seeing how this effectively fast -tracked entry - we're in the days of 25k averages here - a couple of quick thinkers would follow in with tickets similarly brandished, proclaiming themselves to be his "helpers".

I wonder if we would have been included in attendance figures?

I always thought that the straw that broke the camel's back was the 1-0 home win against Manchester City in January 2000.

The attendance was given as 23800, but it was clear that it was almost a sell out, nearer 30000. After that, I think the club made a more concerted effort to reach the system we have in place today.

Did he have a season ticket?

I remember games against Rotherham and Donny in the early to mid eighties when you couldn't move on the kop, John Street and BL were full and three quarters of the south stand and attendances were supposed to have been around 24,000.

if they under guestimated the attendance's before and now they are over guestimating surely this a case of trying to balance the book's and looking to the future of running this club in a proper manner.:D

During our 1985/86 season we were at 2nd place in the old div 2 at one stage. We had a purple patch in Autumn when we played successive home games against Blackburn and Palace. The ground was packed for both games but the official crowd was something like 13,600. We never got a league crowd above 14,000 all season.

So, we can now say with with a degree of uncertainty that season ticket holders may or may not be counted in the official figures.

Good

Of course, it's simple. But, as I missed the Wigan match through work commitments and was counted as being there, were there two of me there yesterday?

By my reckoning they have underestimated the crowd and there was something closer to 35000 at the match.

And on that basis, I have submitted my CV to the Head of Accounts at the Stadium of Rust.
