As some older members will remember, this very forum are proud wooden spoon holders from this tournament in August 2006!

This year, the tournament has a slightly different format and will be played at Bramall Lane.

The annual tournament, organised by Blades fans, has been running for a number of years and has played in a number of locations, including the Academy at Shirecliffe and now Bramall Lane.

It is hoped that former team-mates of Mel's will be in attendance whilst the Welshman's father Ron and brother Stephen will also be at the event.

Mel tragically lost his battle against cancer in 1993 and despite only playing eight games for the Blades, made a lasting impression with a number of impressive performances.

The event will be played on Wednesday 18 May 2011 and is open to supporters.

The four teams involved will be:

Interblades A
Interblades B
A mixed team of Sheffield United supporters
A mixed team of Sheffield United staff and ex players

Kick-off is at 5pm and admission is £2 Adults, £1 OAPs and FREE for children.

All money raised will be donated to charity.

In addition, members of the public are invited to attempt to win a chance to play at the lane in the tournament.

There is an auction on eBay (proceeds to charity) and the winning bidder will take the last available place and play alongside the Interblades team. The winner will be in the starting line up in each game (not warming the bench!).

All players will receive a medal for taking part and will of course have a chance of winning the "man of the tournament" as chosen and presented by Mel's father and brother.

90% of the proceeds from the auction and all proceeds from the event itself will be donated to St Luke's Hospice, Sheffield.

10% of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

EBAY AUCTION NOW FINISHED

Mel Rees Charity Tournament @ Bramall Lane 18th May KO 1700

Good evening all,

Just for your info, the Inter Blades are taking part in the Mel Rees Charity Tournament at Bramall Lane tomorrow evening.

This is a 4 team tournament with 2 Inter Blades sides, another set of Blades supporters, plus the Blades backroom staff team, which may include one or two familiar "ringers".

The first match kicks off at 5:00 p.m. with the final match expected to finish by 9:00 p.m.

Proceeds raised from the tournament will be going to St Lukes Hospice and the Teenage Cancer Trust. The South Stand will be open for supporters, and entrance will be via the red gate near "Legends of the Lane" until 7:00p.m. then via the Platinum suite afterwards. I believe there is a £2 entrance fee which will go towards the charities.

If you're at a loose end tomorrow evening then get yourselves down, make a contribution to charity and have some pie, peas and a pint in the Platinum suite! not forgetting, watching hopefully a few decent games of football.

cheers,

Danny B.
Inter Blades F.C.

Also, I've just been updated that Ron and Stephen (Mel's Dad and Brother) will be in attendance to present the winners trophy. Excellent news.

I'm surprised Mouse hasn't been on yet to tell you all about his triumph ;)

How bad must they be if Mousey is winning awards! ;)

I might dust of my adidas crowdfinders for next year. I'm sure my knees will hold up to a 10 seconds or so cameo before I fold into a crippled heap again... :cry2:

I have footage of you living up to your username against Tits. The crowd going 'ooooo' is quality :D
would love to see it lol ,that was my last one so tits you are the lucky last !

Well I've said to Danny that if people want a dvd of their games to bring a blank dvd to a game with either A or B on it and I will put the videos on it.

If anyone wants a disk with our original photos from the Final too, let me know.

I was the lucky Ebay winner, (by default). I couldn't believe it, just £50 to realise a lifelong ambition, I really enjoyed it, although it was probably 20 years too late to do myself justice!

I'd like to Thank everyone involved, Chris and all the other players. A fantastic set of lads who made me feel very welcome and helped to make a superb experience all the more enjoyable. Thanks again.

Yep, what a fantastic evening, one of the best day's of my life... naturally my goal at the Kop end made it that bit more special, still can't stop reliving it in my head every minute of the day.

Well done Rob (e-bay winner), glad you enjoyed the evening, thought you did a good job in there with the hatchet man (Sean - twofootedtackle) who I don't think will be on Bees or Pagey's Christmas card list... you did go for and get the ball though.

Well done to Inter Blades "A" team for winning the tournament, and well done to my team mates from Inter Blades "B" for claiming 3rd place in the play-off against the Back room staff/ex-pro's.

Congrats to the End of Season Award winners, Adam Ward picking up Managers POTY, and Liam Wasden deservedly picking up most improved player and also the Players POTY award for his consistent performances throughout the season.

Finally a massive thanks to Chris, Colin and Richard Batho for making all of this possible and to the ex-pro's (Paul Beesley, Mark Todd, Carl Bradshaw and Rob Page) for taking part on the Backroom staff team.

I'm not suprised at this conversation... its been 4(?) years since I last played with him, but even then Twofoots legs were too weary to get him into tackles on time.... :)
