Key note:
“There is no doubt that Sheffield United are playing good football now, and their 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Bramall Lane was a well-merited victory. The margin was only a narrow one; but as the home side were without the services of Simmons for the most of the second half, and as Liverpool generally show fighting form after the change of ends there is every reason for jubilation over the result. The ground was in a very slippery condition, and the players had considerable difficulty in getting a firm foothold, nevertheless plenty of clever football was witnessed. Neither side were at full strength, but the home team’s deputies did better than did those of the opposition. At centre half-back United had Beaumont again, while Liverpool had their new Scotsman McNab.” (Sheffield Daily Telegraph: January 5, 1920)
