As may be apparent I tend to knock around with people who are what might be called a bit pervy.

Hence a first date with a woman in that particular sub culture would not tend to involve a film or dinner...

No doubt, but surely you take care not to shock them with the evening's agenda?

You taking a fellow perv out is much less weird that taking someone unsuspecting to a porno. That's Taxi Driver material.

Fair point. It's all relative I suppose and depends on if you want a second date...

I remember that, we pissed on them and when they had a couple of moments when they actually looked a class above, Alan Kelly made a normally match winner, amazing save, look REALLY easy. I remember Teddy having a strop. Also that Cundy was awful.
Someone told me today that it was also Sol Campbells debut game.

I agree with (and was there for all of them) those.

a match we had to win for prommotion as they were just below us in the table
Tue 27 Apr 1971
Home to Cardiff we won 5-1
that saturday was the last game of the season, we won that too but can anyone tell me who scored in those last 2 games?

27/4/71 H Cardiff W5-1 Dearden 2, Currie, Flynn, Reece
1/5/71 H Watford W3-0 Woodward pen, Reece 2

I don't know where you were stood, but I thought there was a thunderstorm on the terrace....
I was sat in the BLUT that night. The first real thunderstorm I can remember watching the Blades play a match in was in our 3-1 win against Southampton in August 1971 (it happened during the 2nd half). If you look at the photos (two photos of celebrating the 1st goal, Flynn scoring our 2nd, Reece, Flynn and Dearden in the dressing room after the game, Blades fans celebrating on the pitch) of the Cardiff match in the Watford programme you will not see any evidence of rain also there is a photo of TC' scoring our 3rd in Keith Farnsworth's book of Football in Sheffield.

I'm worried now - how did I get so wet?

I remember a night match at Halifax in a really bad thunderstorm the ref took the players off for around 20mins when the lightning was flashing all round the pitch. Weird game Chris Guthrie looked good that night.

The Cardiff match was something else 43,000 but I reckon there was more than that in the lane never known a crush like it on the kop.

cardiff was undoubtably the best ever night game at the lane the 2 that run it closest were both against leeds in 70 in the league cup and the first division game in 71 we battered them both games

You might also remember a 1-1 draw v. Spurs in 1961 after promotion. Rocco got the second half equaliser on an emotional night at the Lane.

FA cup quarter final replay V Coventry was a good un for the late drama and penalty shoot out. I still say if we hadn't sold Deane and Fjortoft we'd have won the cup that year.

A more recent one Brentford at home in the promotion season A hurricane blowing across the ground Brentford were in great form, we scored a penalty against the Run of play after about 15 mins then Madine was almost immediately sent off.. for the next hour we faced wave afrer wave of attack until the pre 2020 Chris wilder did what only the pre 2020 Chris Wilder would have done and brought on another striker , Sharp for a midfielder .. it gives us an outlet against the constant pressure, Sharps harassing wins us a corner with 8 minutes remaining and Didsy heads in a goal from the corner... one of the loudest roars ever from the Kop.. and sets us up nicely to win at Leeds four days later.

I used to enjoy night matches more than Saturday games. Some other contenders...

Blades 2-2 Blackburn (won 5-4 on pens) FA Cup Quarter Final replay 1993
Mitch Ward double including one off his face (they all count)

Blades 5-1 Grimsby League Cup 2nd round 2nd leg 1983
Grimsby were a league above us and had a good team. We went through 8-4 on aggregate after drawing 3-3 in the 1st leg at their place.
Edwards came on for the injured Charles in the return leg and was pissed off with Porterfield for being named sub so scored a brilliant hat-trick.

Blades 2-1 Liverpool League Cup semi 1st leg 2003
Tonge scores twice as Blades come from behind to take the lead in the tie.

Blades 7-3 Northampton League Div 4 1982
Crazy game as Blades go 6-0 up and looking like they might get 10 only for Northampton to score 3 before Blades make it 7 late on.

Blades 1-0 Arsenal League Cup 2nd round 1st leg 1981
4th division blades beat 1st division Gunners without Edwards. Hatton scores winner with Waugh outstanding in goal.

Agree with nearly all the games mentioned on the thread that I read so far, don't know if the Fulham home game in 1968 is in here,we were fighting to stay in Div 1,Fulham were bottom and down,we led 2-0 early in the second half and cruising and they tore us apart with 3 in a very short space of time, never recovered and went down, nightmare night.

Another game I would include, simply for one reason, think it was Bristol Rovers in a meaningless end of season game one spring night.Keith Edwards does a Pele +,dummies a cross, the goalie buys it and Keith runs around him, collects the ball in front of an empty net, does a little dance and taps it in.
