Regardless of who we pick I reckon on one of two outcomes. Either we're going to see a hell of a game and we'll nick a win, or we'll get one almighty tonking. I hope for the former but I strongly suspect the latter. Houllier isn't going to pick a weakened team - he isn't far off the sack unless his fortunes improve, and getting beaten by a crap Championship side - that's us, by the way - might just be the final nail in his coffin.

It certainly won't be a boring draw. So given my recent predictive skills, you might want to lump your cash on 0-0.:D

How about this completely of the wall idea loosely based on 3-5-2? Monty and Britten are in the mid 5 but sitting just in front of the back three and forming a centre mid triangle with Williamson

..........................................Simonsen

.......................Parrino ................ Bartley .................. Ertl

...................................Montgomery ............. Britten

.......... Ward ....................... Williamson ............................... Yeates

............................Bogdanovic .............................. Evans

Gives a quick back 5 if necessary as Monty and Britten cover back when Villa attack and brings them into play when we go forward

I wish there was a tin hat emoticon......

Kozzy is a Blades hero and will run his heart out but he didn't play "very well" against Donny. He held his own for most of the game but his lack of pace was exposed on a number of occasions, and will struggle against any decent forward. Given our lack of defensive options he could well get a start against Villa but I'll be apprehensive if he does.

Owing to problems beyond their control, Sheffield United are currently experiencing difficulties with their telephone lines.

If you can get down in person the best course of action would be to do so, and in plenty of time. Supporters are advised to arrive early to purchase and/or collect tickets.

The club apologies for any convienience and would ask for patience from those who need to contact by telephone.

I suspect the phone lines are not a problem. No one wants to go so there are no calls

If only we started games well, played some good stuff in the second half - draw would have been a fair result

Think a fair result would have been a Blades win. Villa had 4 chances and scored 3. 3rd goal was quality tho, can only dream of the Blades scoring a goal like that.

I agree, thought bar a couple of lapses in concentration we were actually the better team especially second half. Quality shone through in right areas for them though.

The first two came from what looked like bad defending, the whole defence disappeared in front of Walker and Simmo just seemed to sit on his arse. The second Young was in far too much space and had time to pick out his man. The third though was quality play. It was just a shame that Britton hadn't realised how much time he had when he shot over just before their last.

No complaints about the result or our performance. The better side won in the end but I like the feel of Micky's side.

Villa match thoughts...

Horrible first half. Poor United support contrasted with great Villa backing. Kyle Walker reminding us of what we're missing, and no real test for Villa.

Big turnaround in the second. We got at them, came within a goal, but a bit of class from Villa finished it off. Oh, and Ashley Young is a mardy twat.

Refreshing spirit from the Blades, but the bench full of kids and the empty home stands show how precarious our position is. Losing Yeates as well means we simply have to strengthen somehow in the window.

Onwards and hopefully upwards. :)

As said elsewhere I thought we shaded the game but the quality showed for them where it mattered in the final third.

Didn't feel there was much in the 1st half but they took their chances superbly but 2nd half I thought we were fantastic and 3-1 was a harsh scoreline overall.

Some encouraging signs and I thought Bartley, Parrino, Britton and Boggy were the pick of the bunch. Marks to Evans for battling with not a deal of support and also Wardy who I felt had his best game in a long while.

First half turgid, nothing whatsoever to get excited about. They were shit, had 2 chances and scored, how embarrassing.

Second half, played with a bit more passion, created very few chances, they were still shit and had 1 chance and scored, piss poor.

Yes we upped the tempo second half, but without any real committment for me. Saw the Leeds game earlier and they looked streets ahead of us in every area. They passed the ball, they had pace, strength in the tackle and they had some belief. Perhaps the league table doesn't lie, perhaps we're out of the cup and looking even more precarious in the league than one or two would have you believe.

Sorry, forgot to put the rose tinted specs on. The only positive today was Bogdanovich, the rest of the events were instantly forgettable.

You may not have rose tinted specs, but you're clearly one-eyed. Villa's clincher was a fabulous goal.

Montgomery did not pass to a Red & White shirt at all in the first half. How he can be preferred to Leon Britton as Willo's partner is a complete mystery. Please pick the team on merit in future Mr. Adams.

Defenders please! Centre Back and Left Back [Kozluk!!!!] as a matter of urgency.

Parrino, Bartley, Britton and Willo did well throughout. Others - a spirited second half but far too little too late.

Match Report

Just a quick summary for those who did not get to go.

Set off a little nervous.
A Piece of class Walkers goal. Dint cellabrate. Got clapped by our fans for that and his great finnish.
Second goal. Albrighton good finish altough maybe pelli? could have prevented cross.
created a few chances going forward. Ward on to a back pass- Great chance- Brad Fredel out quick and his class keeping saved them. Shout for a pen. Looked like hand ball to me although aint seen replay. HT Blades 0 Villa 2

2nd half.
Got pen Willo brought down, Ward takes staight down middle scored.
Went at em for rest of 2nd half. some great passing and variation with balls in to box.
Ertl - Yes Ertl got more in to game got in to box causing them probs. Boggy some good touches. Monty winning loads and distribution good. Kozzy causing probs with long throws and little jinked balls. Ward running well and Ched making then think.
Most of their breakaways snuffed out by Barts and Simmo pulled off a great save.
Waker nearly giffted us a goal when he got caught Dwelling on the ball.
Had loads of blocked shots from edge of box and other blocks. Ran at em crossed loads, a good few corners and good long throws.
Highlight - Overhead scissor kick by Ertl bottom corner - Brad Fredel class saved them again. Their 3rd - injury time us pushing forward for leveller.
All our players played for the shirt and club today. Dont think we should even try to seperate marks.
Worth the money to see game today. If we play with the spirit and fight of the last two games then we'll be safe no prob.

You obviously didn't go today then, because everyone knows that Monty never ever wins anything and never passes; and that Kozluk is terrible and shouldn't be let near the first team, and Ertl is dire. You've just made this up to wind up the navel gazers.;)

Alot of positives to take out of that. First half, yes we started off poor but we started passing the ball around nicely and Ward had a massive chance which Friedel did well to save. I think we all know where our problems are and that is in defence, we seemed scared to put a foot in when Walker was running at us. For crying out loud get stuck in!

Second half we came alive and to be honest i thought we was going to come back. Glad to see Ward get a goal and hopefully will give him some confidence which he has really needed in my opinion. A great save from Friedel prevented Boggy getting us level but we had a hell of a lot of passion and fight in us. We got caught again by Walkers pace for their 3rd goal but if we carry on like that i am confident of us staying up.

What annoys me is that it takes us until the second half to get going, however thought the majority of players overall had a good game.

It certainly reads that way. An objective report would disclose that Montgomery and Kozluk were embarrassingly bad. That they are in the team at all speaks for itself as to our current plight.

An objective report might also disclose that both had a good game, but alas, until we can get robots to do the reporting then we'll never get a truly objective report, will we? It doesn't matter what either player does, we know you hate them. And I don't think there are any Blades who are both unaware of our current plight or who would turn down better replacements.

I've said it before - if we can get better then get them. perhaps you'd like to go out and get them, being the expert in these matters? Why not saunter down to the nearest player tree and give it a shake? I do however suspect it's a bit more complexd that just wandering out and getting whoever you fancy whenever you want.

Just once, Just once. I would like you to pick on some other players. We are where we are and we have to work with what we have. Our last six managers have played Monty, But you would make a better manager than all of them. SV has you summed up well. Just one question, Who out of our present squad would you play at left back?

The match report is a good summary and pretty much accurate.

Re Yeates; Adams post Match comments make it sound like his shoulder isn't as bad as Cressys? Anybody else get that? I'm clutching at straws tbh...

Thought Yeates had been poor in his last few games. Seems to try and take his man on too many times instead of getting the ball in the box asap.

Speeds (and Blackwells) half times were poor ,we never turned out second half, Adams seems to be able to motivate and change shape ,very encouraging.

I agree ,and to say Montgomery was embarrassingly bad against Reo-coker, Pires,Bannan who were all subbed is quite frankly...........embarrassing.

Rubbish post. Sorry, I know we agree to disagree Pinchy, but that post smacks of blinkered bigotry. Credit where its due, even if it doesn't fit with your agenda.
