For those who are confused, we (SUFC) are playing Chengdu at the Coach and Horses ground tomorrow - 19:45 kick off.

Sheffield FC are also playing Chengdu, funnily enough, at the Coach and Horses but they are playing on Friday now.

I got confused because it was at the Bright Finance, so assumption took over and thought it must be Sheffield FC

Ugo Ehiogu, Nick Montgomery and Lee Hendrie are the stand out names as a United XI takes on the Chengdu Blades at the Bright Finance Stadium on Wednesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.

All three featured when the Blades beat Sheffield FC 4-0 earlier in pre-season and the trio will be hoping to put in another competent display to impress boss Kevin Blackwell, ahead Saturday's Championship opener at Birmingham City.

Also included in the squad are Jordan Robertson, Nicky Law and Jamie Annerson.

Blades: Annerson, Walker, Ehiogu, Lowton, K.Quinn, Law, Montgomery, Wedgbury, Hendrie, Robertson, Adams, Ho Lee, Chanot, Tahar, Travis, Chapman.

The game is part of the 1857 Challenge Trophy, where Sheffield United, Sheffield FC and Chengdu Blades all face each other in a round-robin triangular tournament.

Chengdu take on Sheffield FC, also at the Bright Finance Stadium, on Friday evening.

I know it's free fpr ST holders but not sure about any other prices

I wasn't aware of this part... given that it's a friendly with a Sheffield United XI and not an official reserve match.

You'll see the prices if you look at the very first post in this thread.

how much is it to get in?

I'm sure no one actually reads anything any more...

Someone at work who goes to all the Sheffield games told me about free for ST's and he's usually quite reliable for info.
Prob part of the Reserve match deal with Sheffield FC

Finished 3-1 Blades after 2 late, cracking goals from Nicky Law.

More and pics soon...ish..

Glad to know Hendrie is showing up but I continue to be surprised that Law is overlooked. I know he spends his time in the reserves but unlike most of our midfiled players he does get onto the scoresheet; that ought to be worth something.

Law does seem to be one of those "so close but yet so far" let's hope he takes the step up soon. Otherwise he should go and seek first team football elsewhere for the sake of his own future.

I was impressed again with Hendrie. He perhaps didn't put a massive stamp on the game, but he worked very well. To begin with on the left wing, then towards the final minutes, behind a single striker.

His attitude was spot on, he was his usual "heated" self, but he channeled it well. He also busted a gut to cover at left back when Quinny was lost/caught up field.

Despite rumours on his attitude towards youngsters in his Villa days, I was also impressed with his role in helping the young lads. He was vocal with them, gave advice, constructive critisism and plenty of encouragement.

Did himself no harm what so ever with a well taken goal, originating from another great pass from a certain Mr Montgomery.

As for Nicky Law, he was in and out of the game, but two great goals.

After tonights game I think someone has Kidnapped Monty and replaced him with a player who can pass and control the ball very well indeed. :D

Monty had a great game, Hendrie worked hard and played very well too.

3 cracking goals from United and a good goal from Chengdu.
Better second half than the first.

Sheffield United 3 - 1 Chengdu Blades

The scoreline probably flattered United's first half performance, despite having a couple of early chances. Keith Quinn, starting a left back, was taking every opportunity to get down the wings. A determined run to the corner flag saw him knocking the ball back to Hendrie to launch an inviting cross into the box which Robertson (?) could only head at Fu Bin, Chengdu's lanky keeper.

A Nicky Law cross from the right also just eluded Robertson's touch in the box shortly after.

Chengdu weren't to be taken lightly though, as they made use of the possession in midfield to push forward into United's half. A good forward run from Wang Song found Zhang Chaosong in space in the box, the latter spurning a good chance by slipping on the wet grass and firing well over.

United failed to heed the warning. Ugo Ehiogu was leading the back line well, partnered by Matt Lowton, but nobody picked up Wang Song loitering around the back post as a free kick was lofted into the box, and he simply applied the slightest of touches to knock the ball past Jamie Annerson.

United failed to pressurise Fu Bin's goal throughout the first half and Chengdu were ready to capitalise on any mistake. Kyle Walker miscontrolled while in possession and Zou Yougen was ready to pounce, perhaps a little too eager with his shot, going for glory instead of passing to his team mates. But there's a clear difference in the standard of play from the last time I saw Chengdu play, two years ago.

The second half started as the first had finished, with Chengdu pushing forwards. Zhang Chaosong picked the ball up on the counter but could only fire wide under pressure from a sprinting Lee Hendrie. And shortly afterwards, Hendrie showed that he could get forwards as well. A beautiful pass from Montgomery found Hendrie on the left and he wrapped his foot round the ball to curl it into the very top of the net.

The Chengdu lads seemed to like mixing it up a bit and some of our younger players were feeling slightly frustrated, perhaps best evidenced by Walker's run from right back into the box and his powerful shot towards goal - he either meant it to go in or decapitate one of the Chinese lads!

A brace from Nicky Law finished off the scoring and the competition. His first goal came from a cheeky chipped shot from the right touch line, just on the edge of the box. It was perfectly lofted to roll down the net from the crossbar. His second came after Aymen Tahar's run down the left found Law in space who simply knocked the ball into the net.

A couple of points about players:

Jordan Robertson was replaced late on, looked injured as a result of a stong aerial challenge. Didn't get much service along with Jack Adams, who seemed slightly lost up front.

Sam Wedgbury seemed to relish getting stuck in with some well-timed, but definitely hard, challenges. Very good defensive CM game from him.

Lee Hendrie - people say he's a prick but all the young lads were getting praise, encouragement and advice from him last night.

Ugo Ehiogu - A beast. He slipped and fell once but bossed their number 9 (who I assume was their Brazilian, Rodrigues?) out of the game.

Monty - What can I say that hasn't already been said? He left Wedgbury to defend while he pushed forward - splaying the ball around midfield. Very good performance.

I assume Foxy will be forthcoming with pictures soon and I'll grab the team lists from elsewhere... I have no idea where to start with the Chinese lads :D

Sheffield United: Annerson, Walker, Ehiogu, Lowton, K.Quinn, Law, Montgomery, Wedgbury, Hendrie, Robertson, Adams. Subs: Ho Lee, Chanot, Tahar, Travis, Chapman.

Chengdu:Fu Bin, Liu Cheng, Demar Stewart, Li Tie, Ding Qi, Zou Yougen, Zhang Chaosong, Xia Qixi, Zhu Xiaogang, Wang Song, Danilson Sousa. Subs: ???

Denilson Souza I think.

I evidently watched a different game to James Shield...

THREE second-half goals saw a Sheffield United XI come from behind to beat Chengdu Blades.

The visitors soaked up some intense pressure before Xia Qixi seized upon a defensive error to fire Li Bing's side into the lead but United, with manager Kevin Blackwell watching from the stands, moved through the gears after the interval to leave their sister club still searching for the first victory of their English tour.

But Chengdu, United's sister club in the Far East, looked a much improved outfit to the one which travelled to Europe a couple of seasons ago as the experience of Chinese Super League football pays dividends.

Li Tie, who returned home following an injury-plagued spell at Bramall Lane, anchored Chengdu's midfield while Demar Stewart, the West Indian who previously played for White Star Woluwe, United's Belgian development partners, delivered a strong performance at the heart of defence.

Youngster Jiang Xiaoyu, who has previously spent time training at United's youth academy, impressed with his touch, control and poise.

But the undoubted highlights of last night's match were strikes from Lee Hendrie, Nicky Law and Kyle Walker which were fit to grace any game; let alone this 'friendly' friendly at the Bright Finance Stadium.

Nick Montgomery and Ugo Ehiogu also palyed for United.

Chendu complete their schedule against Sheffield FC at the same venue tomorrow.

1) This was announced incorrectly at the match. We were stood near the goal and it was clearly their number 33 that put the ball away, not 26 as the stadium announcer said. There was a crowd in the box, but I'd hazard a guess that we saw better.

2) He doesn't say goals, but it does tend to read that way. Kyle Walker had a very good shot, but it was Nicky Law who scored twice with Hendrie.

Bad writing or not getting your facts right... either way, shoddy :D
