'Memries' “John” Marcelo

What a player; this was approaching 30 years ago (!)). Really loved him as a youngster.



Was his name being printed in the Green Un an error, or did they have to put a first name in and went for John?

I remember teletext showing our goalscorer as "Cipriano" and a large section of Blades who weren't at the game assumed it was a new signing scoring on his debut (because in those days new signing could literally be in the starting line up and no one would have a clue who it was).

It turns out that was also his name.

I think it might have been someone on Blades Viewpoints that confirmed it? Did anyone on here used to use that forum? Pretty sure it predates this one and Bladesmad.

Tony Pritchett had a disagreement with the typist at the Green Un when she was typing in a match report, she insisted that Marcelo must have a Christian name. Tony didn't want to go into an argument so he the said "OK, John then!"
