We didn't have to sell Walker and this proves what many of us said at the time that we could have held on and got a bigger fee.

I'm not saying we'd have got 50 million but a damn sight more than we did.

It is this sort of short sightedness which has blighted our history.

Don't tell me there isn't ways round things we have just witnessed a team in a lower division keep a player we've bid for whereas with us all we've ever heard is "we can't stop players going to higher divisions"

Fact is we don't try to.

So...hypothetically speaking....assuming this goes through and by some miracle Levy actually pays the 10% on the profit we get say £4.5m....plus the original fee of £4m rising with appearances. That makes it around the £8.5m mark.

Now strictly speaking, when we sold him we were a championship side. If we had kept him would he have assured us promotion back to the premier league? Probably not, so it's perhaps likely that within 12 months we would have sold him anyway.
So would we have got more than the £4m? Maybe....but what is the maximum a lad his age who's a full back has been sold for from the championship?

I reckon in the end we aren't going to be far off what we would have got if we had kept him another year or two. Of course we might have managed another sell on clause too.....but being right unless we hadn't become a top premier league side there is no way we would have got anywhere near what Spurs are going to get for him.

Can't agree more on the KW sale. To me that was more baffling than any managerial appointments. As someone who saw his every appearance for us I'd never been so certain that a United youngster would go on to much greater things. The fee we apoarently received was a joke.

What odds on repeating that unforgivable move with Brooks?

Every single penny of this money needs to be made available for transfers.

We've already seen what Chrissy Wilder can do on a budget, imagine what great value he could get with £5m!!

Yeah you're probably right. All football debts get paid in full, whilst the rest get 1p to the £. How does football get away with that?

Man Utd currently run a debt 4000 x bigger than the debt that Hereford Utd owed HMRC which saw them wound up

Hope it all goes into the running of the team. Watch us spend lot on the Kop and then rename it the Kyle Walker Kop

I wouldn't have a problem with a chunk of it going towaeds a total Shoreham end redevelopment to include commercial and residential elements. Our kop is something of a blot on the landscape.

Edited to add after consideration it's a fucking abomination.

The most pathetic sale in the history of football. Didn't even need to do it, having just sold Naughton, but seeing as we had more important things to do at the time, like build an hotel, we made Levy a buy one get the other for fuck all, when any Blade with eye sight, and David blunkett and his dog knew that Walker was 10x the player that naughton was. Now spurs pockets are bulging, and we get a few crumbs! Thank fuck for CW. At least that shit won't happen under his watch.

With you all the way on this. After half a dozen matches for us I got a price from the bookies on him being a full international by the age of 21. They gave me just 5/1

He was different class from the off. Remember the goal he scored against us whilst on loan at Villa? Just ran straight through us, and every Blade in the ground applauded. I know some don't like us giving you much credit to former players, but he's just a class act.

come to think of it what did barnsley actually do with the money they reieved from stones sell on clause, cant seem to recall them paying a fee for anyone else after they got the money

My point exactly

totally at the time, in the championship for an unproven yet arguably fantastic talent, if we had been offered 9m for him im sure a lot who are now saying it was a crap deal for the club, would, and i stress at the time, not knowing what we do now, would have been very happy with 9m for him

I don't think anyone can take credit for it but it's worked out better in a way. If we'd have got £9m up front Blackwell would've wasted it on more crap. At least the bulk of it's going to a manager who knows what to do with it.

Would be nice to hear something more official regarding any sell on amount either from Spurs or us.
