Seriously this is an improvement on previous years. Can't remember the last time we played a relatively big club at their home stadium as part of pre-season (unless you count Estoril)

Seriously this is an improvement on previous years. Can't remember the last time we played a relatively big club at their home stadium as part of pre-season (unless you count Estoril)

Personally, I would count Estoril. Benfica and Sporting Lisbon go there in the league. There's a bit of a case for Casa Pia - although the stadium we played at is mainly used for friendlies now.

And Stade de Reims would have been the last "big one" before that.

Disappointing and predictable fixtures. Apart from the Bochum fixture, there’s nothing to either stretch the players or excite the fans. I suppose I don’t really care too much about friendlies as long as the players are fully ready for the season by the opening day. Previous experience of these fixtures suggest that won’t be the case.
Have the club explained the lack of home fixtures? I presume the pitch is being worked on or something similar?

I take it you weren't at the Estadio Algarve for the game v Real Betis in summer 2919 ?
The first PL season which followed that was pretty good.
In fact , I venture to suggest that until COVID , it was ...
Unexpectedly absolutely feckin brilliant.

There are 3 periods in my Bladey career when I felt part of something utterly wonderful :

68-72 under Harris
89-94 under Bassett
16-20 under Wilder

I doubt they will be equalled in what remains of my days.

But they were ample reward for my long years of loyalty , even if I live to be 100
