14pts away from autos, 11 pts away from play-offs.

Now nine points off 6th, with a game in hand 🤞
And still have to play 6th at home. Wee then have to outperform those horrible little twats by 3 points over the rest of the other games.

Oh and then the small consideration of everyone else getting out of the way.

Win your home games and draw the away ones they say will get you up.

Well, we have 11 home and 8 away. We’ve just won arguably the hardest home game. Knock the other ten off and you might start to believe!

I’m off to church now to get the prayer mats out 🤣

Last 20 games we are 9th in the form table but that only puts us 3 points off 3rd place.

Imo the damage was done early. As much as I think since Wilder came in we have been a play off quality side a play off quality side has inconsistent results and we didn't have the start to allow that.

And a substantially worse GD. We're miles off it in reality.
The relegation thread was top of the forum midweek...
You sure on the GD? To Brizzle its 11, to others above upto 6th its 8. To overcome 9 points you will better their goal difference by at least 6 - and thats if every game finishes 1-0.

Presuming we go on the run needed to climb the table the gd should take care of itself. Win at Millwall and it's on again.Unfortunately we'll be without Bamford Ogombe and Sumare. On the plus side Tom Davies is presumably still fit.

Oxford after that, who shocked everyone by winning at Leicester yesterday. Would have preferred to face them a couple of weeks ago.

We may be within reach of 6th but there's a gap developing between 5th and 6th. We could be battling about 10 teams for the final play off place.

I know stats like this are often silly but Opta has us 5th for expected points based on our level of performance all season.

Based on what they've seen and recorded we should be in the playoffs right now regardless.

I struggle to understand how or why, but apparently so.Screenshot 2026-01-25 at 08.29.19.webp

Thought they only had prayer mats in Mosques ...🤔 😄

How easily the memory of losing to two poor teams can be wiped away with one win.

The thread was start 2 months ago and we’re still closer to relegation than the playoffs in both points and league position!

Let’s just get to 50 points first and see where we are.

Or we could just enjoy the afterglow of a great afternoon?

Don,t think we,ll make play offs ..i think any momentum we pick up will be derailed by the three game weeks when wilder leaves our better players out.
The SUFC way is to battle against the odds to get within touching distance of the target ie the playoffs and then fall at the last hurdle and miss out by 1/2/3 points. This is the way.

Although if there was ever a season to win a play off final this would be it.

Win the next game. That’s it.

Likelihood is we will not make the playoffs due to our crap start and inconsistent form but as always its the hope that kills you,

I think we can forget the playoffs. Even off the back of excellent displays like yesterday. There are too many teams ahead of us & we’ll always be susceptible to the odd Southampton like performance. Think we’ll finish around 10th.

Coventry, Middlesbrough, Hull, Wrexham, Preston at home, Millwall, Watford. Bristol and Derby away. Looks easy enough!!!
Can't see anything other tann than mid table, but ??

It’s a really weird season. I think Wilder’s turned us into a side where with everyone available we’re a playoff contending side. But put us in a situation where we need our squad depth and we’re quite far away from that. Partly due to quality, partly due to inexperienced combinations. I had a feeling we’d beat Ipswich with that starting lineup in the same way I thought we’d get nothing against Southampton. If we can cut out some of the stupidity and have a better run of injury luck I’d back us to contend for the playoffs and be in with a good shout.

The reason for this is that we have underscored our xg by about 8 and exceeded xgagainst by about 8. Ings is the largest culprit at -2.7 for the strikers and Cooper is most to blame for those conceded, at -8.5 for on target shots.

However, we have been improving a lot - if you look at Coolblade 's post on yesterday - we outperformed both xg and xga.

The xg table is a good representation of chances created and achieved - your actual league position then reflects how above or below average you are at taking and preventing those actual chances.

Hull are the very opposite from us - they are 19th in most xGTables and yet they are 4th in the actual table.

Improving striker confidence and Coops getting over whatever was his niggling injury and we are seeing what can happen.

We are Top 6 performers, and if the results match our performances we can still get close to the playoffs - we probably need Top 2 form to make 6th - but we just convincingly beat the top performer - so it is possible.

Hope but don't expect!

UTB &FTP!

Watching B'Mouth v Liverpool last night and they (BM) were battling and sprinting around at breakneck speed in the 90+ minutes and got their just reward with the winning goal.

Superb athleticism!
This is and has been the massive difference in the premier league the last few times we’ve briefly visited.

The typical premier league player is an absolute specimen and has an engine like a 2004 Toyota Avensis, and has probably clocked as many miles too!

10 points from the first 15 games killed the season. It's looking likely that 72+ will be required for 6th and United just don't quite have the strength in depth to maintain that sort of consistency

if wilder is saying 2 signings i think that tells us that were not going for it imo if we had been going to go for it i think we would have been looking at 4 coming in get a couple in now to integrate in to the squad clear the deadwood out this summer and bring 5/6 more in this summer
