Attendance Lie

Anyone hear Gary Armstrong announce todays attendance of 23k as "the highest of the season"?

The crowd against Bradford City was 26k.....o_O

Hard to make out anything the croaking bastard said today.

Only requirement of that job is to be able to speak. And he couldn't manage that.

I loved the slopeheads derisively cheering our attendance until the few that could count realised that today's attendance was more than Oakwell can hold.

The attendance of 23,307 included 3,694 dingles.

This means 19,613 home fans.

And yet the South stand was much fuller than recently (acid test is the gents at half time which were rammed compared to the last few games), the kop was significantly fuller, as was the family stand.

No way we only had about 1-2k more than a typical game with 30 away fans of late.

I'm wondering if they no longer count season ticket holders twice if they actually turn up?

Did we ever establish whether or not they do count season ticket holders even if they don't go to the game?

You certainly couldn't fit nearly 10,000 more people in, unless my eyes deceive me. The Southampton game last season was similar. I think we got 22,000 roughly but it seemed quite a bit more, fortunately it won't make a blind bit of difference to what we spend next year, the board will decide that no matter what attendance gets announced.

Or the fact that if you didn't count our one eyed neighbours, more Blades probably turned up to watch us against Oldham*

*insert name of just about any other club in the league.

V Walsall the attendance was counted at 19,000 yet it looked like there was only 16,000 there.

I wonder if the attendance figure was actually home fans

Lying (upwards) about attendances is common nowadays. It looks more impressive to potential sponsors or advertisers.

Nobody does it more than Arsenal although Wendy could set a new record this Saturday. According to some idiot on Radio Pig (I'm sure his name was Mick. Or was it Mick? Maybe Mick Senior?) Wendy will get a 'full house' which is 39,732.

Bet they don't.

Although their website states:
All under 17s are £10 and all under 11s are £5...

So factor in Radio Pig mounting a week-long propaganda drive and laying on free coaches, who knows?
