Conclusion - league 1 is shit

Under 18 s and 21 s have made the play offs in there respective leagues. , can the first team do the same, ? !!! I say it's still on !!!

I've only ever bet on united once before. I bet on us being relegated from the PL. I won :(

Did you grab it when it went out to 25-1 when we had about 6 games left? I stuck 50 quid on. My thinking was "oh well, if we get relegated at least I'll have a big wedge of cash, which will ease the pain".

It didn't turn out like that. I was convinced that somehow I'd caused the Blades to fall at the last. I couldn't get rid of the money fast enough, but people wouldn't even let me get the drinks in with my "tainted wad". Never done it since.

I've always blamed Colin. Now I know differently :(

Not a chance we'll reach the play offs, most of the squad aren't good enough for the Championship and know it, another year in League one would suit them and if we just miss out on the play offs, so much the better.

One things for sure, those out of contract would have more chance of an extension/renewal playing in Div 1, so who wouldn't want to do so at a big club and in front of 20,000, what's not to like?

The club has made no secret that if we get to The Championship, then the big investment would begin, which translated suggests a mass clear out, to a lot of the current playing staff, promotion would be like turkeys voting for Christmas? :(

You're forgetting the ego of footballers...I don't think they'd see it that way and if by some chance we did go up, they knocking the door down for a new contract, rightly stating they'd 'done their job'...

Don't remember the odds, or how much I bet, but I hedged the bet by buying shares, thinking that if we stayed up and I lost the bet the increased share price would cover the bet. And if we went down the winnings from the bet would cover the loss from the shares. Made about £500. Yay me:(

getting a play off spot be it 3rd 4th 5th or 6th gets you in the play offs
the logic is 3rd or th get the same chance
he inherited a squad that finished 5th and then Adkins let his first player Murphy go , any new manager inherits someone elses players
MOST TEAMS HAVE INJURED PLAYERS
and we dont know how much he was given to buy Burn BUT IT WONT HAVE BEEN CHEAP

So now Adkins let Murphy go? You just keep moving them goalposts fella.

think youll find its factually correct , Clough didnt let Murphy go he played , well turned out , at Gillingham , did he not so Adkins inherited him
what are you argueing different to that fact
I havent moved any posts just stating the bleeding obvious
as Adkins joined in june he had Mutphys services for 3 months, as some say , he could have insisted he stayed, but stated we would cope

1. I know that. Having the same chance doesn’t mean the manager has performed to an equal standard. We performed miles better in the Ched season than any other since we’ve been down here. We still ended up in the playoffs but that doesn’t mean we weren’t better. Resources also come into consideration when assessing manager performance. Paul Cook did a much better job getting Chesterfield to the playoffs than Clough did to get us there last season.

2. Minus M. Doyle, S. Davies, B. Davies, I. Turner, J. Holt. And no, he didn’t let Murphy go, the board did.

3. Yes but Clough wasn’t a new manager last season. He’s had the chance to completely rebuild the team. Adkins hadn’t.

4. Yes but they don’t all have players that were being played injured the season before (Flynn, Coutts, Done) resulting in them returning to pre-season in a right old state and taking months to get fit.

5. It really doesn’t cost much at all to make an unacceptable offer. And yes, failing to do the deal would be very cheap indeed.

Your perception as to a manager’s autonomy in handling finances, contracts, transfer offers etc. really is staggering.

Rochdale take points off Gillingham tonight, and we win, then it's absolutely still on. And would make Saturday a very interesting and highly contested game. Please keep the effort and spirit of the last couple of weeks going lads. Cup Final, must win mindset going into every game while there's still a chance. UTB.

what utter trash
clough did a rescue job first 8 months then got what Adkins got

adkins has had longer in the job than Carvahal has at the pigs he started 5 weeks later

whos done better

Paul cook did better job how , they finished below us in the league
or are you now saying 6th is better argueing with yourself

“then got what Adkins got”- That is yet another of your ridiculous lies. Clough had control of the retained list having had a good look at the squad. He’d also already managed to get rid of some he didn’t want the January before (Brandy, King etc.) and brought in Scougall so his rebuild had already started. He had loads of room in the budget to bring in players and was given £2million to sign Brayford, around £500k for Done, undisclosed fees for the likes of McNulty, Higdon, Coutts, Freeman etc. wages and signing on fees for JCR, Basham, Davies, Butler etc. Compensation for McGahey, J. Wallace etc. Loan fees/wages for O Grady, McCarthy, Holt, Davies.

Adkins hasn’t had the option of releasing players yet. No contracts have expired under his reign. He will get that chance in the summer and if he is similarly backed and fails to mount a credible challenge for the top two next season, then he will have failed.

“adkins has had longer in the job than Carvahal has at the pigs he started 5 weeks later whos done better”

Chalk and cheese. Carvalhal is a head coach and player recruitment is driven by a committee that was in place before he was. Adkins had to set up a scouting network when he got here.

£2million for Matias

£3-4 million for Forestieri

Again, they’ve been able to bring in a boat load of players during this season. Adkins hasn’t had that opportunity yet.

“Paul cook did better job how , they finished below us in the league
or are you now saying 6th is better arguing with yourself”

If you really can’t understand how amassing 69 points with newly promoted Chesterfield and their resources (selling their top scorer half way through the season) is more of an achievement than amassing 71 points with Sheffield United (signing about 20 players including one for nearly £2million) then you are even more stupid than I thought. Your lack of comprehension of the most basic concepts really is staggering.

Under the same logic, Louis Van Gaal has done a better job than Eddie Howe in the Premier League this season...

different gravy regarding fees in the championship
Id expect us to spend that much in there minimum
relatively wednesdays not spent more in the championship compared to other clubs , ie boro burnley derby

yes they spent more than us well dah

Forget about the other results today, Rochdale v Gills was the big one and we made up two more points on 6th place. Win on Saturday, and there will be everything to play for going into the final two games. Lose and it's season over (again).

Barnsley will be on a high after their last minute winner, and would love to end our season. But basically, all we need to do is put it in one end and keep it out of the other.
