(Throughout football young players are discarded - rejected even - at all ages, and many become very disillusioned. Important to encourage them to stay in the game and find their level.)

Last part of the interview focused on recruitment and retention - but basically fell back on this phrase a number of times. Didn't sound like we'd be making huge bids for anyone.

If I've read that correctly, that the budget for next season has already been swallowed up then we are in bother, especially when we are supposed to be off loading a group of players, which I would've thought gives us some scope?

Can't recall if he used the exact phrase but imo it is a two way street - sometimes the fans lift the players, sometimes the players lift the fans.

I have genuine fears that next season is going to be at best mid table and possibly even a relegation fight. All the signs are there regarding the budget and Adkins is constantly attempting to lower expectation levels, during his interviews. Unless he is just making excuses early, then comments like ITS A THREE YEAR PROJECT TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL clearly say what the expectation level is for next season.
He never used to mention PATHWAY FOR THE YOUNG PLAYERS, however he now says this all the time. I believe this is being used to prepare us for the cheap option of sveral young academy players in the team, who are not yet ready to play for the first team regularly. We will be told that we need to play them for their development, but really this is just the cheap option. We have other young players in Kennedy, Freeman, Scougall, McGahey and McNulty, who have all got Leauge One experience, however they are been discarded, even though they are better players than others who are being brought through from the academy. Although some of this is down to Adkins allowing his personal feelings on players to overide his correct judgement on players, some of this may also be for financial reasons.
Next season appears to be another season of turmoil, with players in the team from this season who are under contract, who Adkins cant move on. There will then be an assortment of academy players and cheap free transers. Alongside this will be his big signing (Hammond) and others who are retained (McEverley). It doesn't look good.

Not sure what to think but he did say we have to cut our cloth accordingly. Similar to what Blackwell said when he had to cut the wage bill.

That said it could just be a regular case of saving money and not retaining players that will barely feature in the first team anyway. We don't need 40+ players on our books, we need a squad of around 25 players.
