  • no injuries
  • sounds like it'll be the same team
  • common goal, players, owners, supporters
  • good noise from the fans - it's a two way street
  • effort and quality last week
  • 3-5-2 all good performances apart from Burton
  • players happy with the way we're playing
  • Danny and Chris Sheffield United legends
  • good football people
  • not taking our foot off the pedal
  • still pushing for promotion
  • know it's a big ask
  • focus on the next game
  • tell the players to work hard in the next training session
  • will be full-blooded, should be, and done in the right manner
  • asked about [Chesterfield's] Gboly Ariyibi who he had at Southampton brings it back to Dimaio and the hope that young players succeed
  • it can feel like the end of the world, but really important that young players who aren't retained keep playing football
  • mentions several times we'll have to cut our cloth accordingly for next season
  • not been given a contract - the other side of that is they can leave
  • still got a very large group of players
  • could say that's taken up the budget for next season
  • have to bring in the players who improve
  • wages, agents fees, transfer fees, prefer benchwarming in a higher division - all factors mean someone might not come
  • have to live within your means look at Bolton, Portsmouth
  • have to have foundation here to build and keep moving

Again an insight into how he sees players as people - not just commodities to be traded. I'd've thought this has its benefits in who we are able to recruit.

(Throughout football young players are discarded - rejected even - at all ages, and many become very disillusioned. Important to encourage them to stay in the game and find their level.)

mentions several times we'll have to cut our cloth accordingly for next season

Last part of the interview focused on recruitment and retention - but basically fell back on this phrase a number of times. Didn't sound like we'd be making huge bids for anyone.

could say that's taken up the budget for next season

Not sure this is to be taken literally...we'll see

wages, agents fees, transfer fees, prefer benchwarming in a higher division - all factors mean someone might not come

Interesting the order he put these in with wages sounding like the biggest factor.

  • Danny and Chris Sheffield United legends
HAHAHA, 50% right. Wilson is no more a legend at the lane than Michael Higdon. Ridiculous thing to say

Thanks for the transcript. Saves me from smashing my speakers through the sheer frustration involved with listening to it in person.

Blue Waffle anyone?

I hope the "two way street" part was added by William Henry Foulkes?
I hope It wasn't Nigel saying we need to up our game too!?

If I've read that correctly, that the budget for next season has already been swallowed up then we are in bother, especially when we are supposed to be off loading a group of players, which I would've thought gives us some scope?

Apart from the utter nonsense that DW is a Blades legend (Jeez) all I get from that is that it looks like the Prince has spit his dummy out, which has been intimated many times on here previously

Have I read that wrong cos those bullet points sure doesn't fill me with any confidence going forward into next season?

In response to a question about players getting applauded off after a 0-0 draw.

Point, the way I heard it, was the fans can lift the players and the players can lift the fans.

Can't recall if he used the exact phrase but imo it is a two way street - sometimes the fans lift the players, sometimes the players lift the fans.

A measure of how bad things have become.....I genuinely had no idea we were playing Chesterfield today, in fact I hadn't a clue who we were playing. Just went online to find out as the thought popped into my head.

Does anyone care as little as I do?

If we can't at least provide a top end League One transfer budget then what an absolute shambles.

We can't, (or aren't) Jim Phipps told us this was coming at the end of the JTW and has more or less been sacked for his honesty.

I had forgotten the kick off was 1pm.

Sounds like we're planning for a few more years down here then - exciting times

AFC Wimbledon at the Lane next season?
That's if Lyle Taylor and Akinfenwa can fire them through the play offs.

Lyle to pop the winner in at Bramall Lane?

It could happen :o

I have genuine fears that next season is going to be at best mid table and possibly even a relegation fight. All the signs are there regarding the budget and Adkins is constantly attempting to lower expectation levels, during his interviews. Unless he is just making excuses early, then comments like ITS A THREE YEAR PROJECT TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL clearly say what the expectation level is for next season.
He never used to mention PATHWAY FOR THE YOUNG PLAYERS, however he now says this all the time. I believe this is being used to prepare us for the cheap option of sveral young academy players in the team, who are not yet ready to play for the first team regularly. We will be told that we need to play them for their development, but really this is just the cheap option. We have other young players in Kennedy, Freeman, Scougall, McGahey and McNulty, who have all got Leauge One experience, however they are been discarded, even though they are better players than others who are being brought through from the academy. Although some of this is down to Adkins allowing his personal feelings on players to overide his correct judgement on players, some of this may also be for financial reasons.
Next season appears to be another season of turmoil, with players in the team from this season who are under contract, who Adkins cant move on. There will then be an assortment of academy players and cheap free transers. Alongside this will be his big signing (Hammond) and others who are retained (McEverley). It doesn't look good.

My old man would lose his shit if I ever told him fans should lift the players- but I understand where Nigel is coming from.
It winds my dad up when players come and applaud the fans, he's not against it, it just reminds him that we need thanking for turning up.
"We used to applauded THEM off, it was a pleasure seeing them play and we'd thank THEM for the entertainment" is his go to quote.

The sounds being made around the financial situation inspire no confidence. Expect McEveley, McGahey and Flynn to be retained and be in the first team next season. Looks like it could be a mammoth task for Adkins again.

Well I hope that was a hint to a number of deals he's already got signed and sealed on Bosmans along with those planned to be shipped out. If not...

Not sure what to think but he did say we have to cut our cloth accordingly. Similar to what Blackwell said when he had to cut the wage bill.

That said it could just be a regular case of saving money and not retaining players that will barely feature in the first team anyway. We don't need 40+ players on our books, we need a squad of around 25 players.

Adkins can't be held responsible for next season's transfer budget.
He's the frontman for the team, but it's down to the chairmen how much they decide on how little he's going to receive.
We've already seen that whatever transfer fee(s) we receive, it's not automatically spent on replacements.
Belt tightening part 44.

To translate the important bits of that:-

There is next to no money for new players.

Better players wil be sold and their agents will be blamed

Mediocre players and kids will replace sold players.

Most of the crap players who are out of contract will be offered extensions.

Get set for another decade at mid table league one ... At best.

The oweners seem happy with where we are. Depressing and certainly not looking forward to next season getting under way.
