Lucky. I was about to call you sexist then.I'm equally prejudiced against any form of rugger. Men's, women's, gay, trans.
It's wrong and our children should be protected from such moral turpitude.

Smaller pitches are quite impractical at a park level (though relatively few pitches in parks are full size) u turn up and get what you're given.......I didn't know it was a talking point......
for me the obvious thing is to play with a size 4 ball like we did when we were youths.....?
Wowzers.
But they DO have different balls, did you know that? ---- I didn't until I saw Andy Murray get into an almighty strop about it when he found he'd been given a women's ball to serve with at a tournament last week....
which, like it or not, influence the young minds that watch it.
Given this it feels like discrimination to say to the girls: When you grow up you can only play this smaller version of the game.
Evidence please![]()
Hey JD, if you're going to quote, please quote in context.
The 'failing society' comment followed a reference to Neighbours Mate.
The story lines in the likes of Eastenders do have an unbalanced disproportionate view of society, whether it's homosexuality, under age sex, profiting from crime, or other storylines which, like it or not, influence the young minds that watch it.
Well, it does happen Fatty - Women only run 100m over hurdles, men 110 ......... the hurdles in the 400m are lower for women, it probably happens elsewhere (and I can see equality happening soon in the events I mention too)
I once heard that the only olympic sport that totally excluded a sex was Synchromeshed Swimming (is that right? will it change?)
It's one for general chat, but if drama was all about white middle class blokes working in offices and going home to their wife and two kids in a Ford Mondeo... Well drama wouldn't be the key descriptor.
At what price though JD?
Hasn't it been said that we are 'a product of our past' WHF?
You must agree that young minds are influenced by what they see?
I'm sure I saw somewhere once where that there was a tendency for kids who grew up playing violent computer games to be more likely to commit violence?
I'm sure one of our resident psychologist types could bear me out here?!
Enjoy mate. I've just started on the obligatory, hangover-preventing glass of waterI'd ask the same question in reverse but this is Blades Chat and I've got a glass of Pinot Grigio to tend to.![]()
Tbf I think you're probably right, and I was reacting to something you didn't post.
For instance if you have a minority lifestyle then, anecdotally, any public acknowledgement of that is liberating (I thought it was just me) so, Yes there is an influence - and in many cases probably a strong one. I would've thought that no matter how many gay characters there are on a show, it's not going to alter the sexuality of the viewers.
I was making a slightly different point about, say, violent TV/games does not make people violent. Maybe violent people seek out violent games.
Hard to disentangle cause and effect.
Also wrt violence there's the argument that it's cathartic and gives a safe place to release fantasies.
isn't conference football also under exploited and also coming on leaps and bounds? Can't we have that on BBC instead?
My issue is that there are so many other top class sports out there which don't get the same front page billing on BBC that women's football gets
It seems to be getting rammed down our throats, so to speak. Top story on BBC sport is women's football. Does anyone really care about it?
It's got legs this. I assume it's set in the near future where the policies so beloved of the Middle Classes - low wages, zero hours contracts and high house prices - are turned upon them so they end up having to live in their comapny cars? It's one for general chat, but if drama was all about white middle class blokes working in offices and going home to their wife and two kids in a Ford Mondeo... The media are just trying to bridge the gap between men and women football. I'm sorry It just will not happen no matter how PC you are. It's like trying to get a load of blokes to take up ballet. You just have to accept that some sports suit one gender more than the other.
My point is explained in my post above, but is it better to show case a sport that is a really poor standard or to showcase a sport where women are really excelling?
Heptathlon v decathlon is another.
I can see the pov that there's this game called football played on a standard pitch with standard equipment and men and women play their different versions.
The alternative is there's a game called football which is played at a certain tempo and the women play with a smaller ball on a smaller pitch to match that tempo (or men play on a bigger pitch to match that tempo). I can see that too but it looks like the women prefer the first version.
