What a Bloody Good Result Today

In regards to the performance and result. Apart from the first 20 minutes that was fucking great. We chased and pushed high and moved the ball quickly till the final whistle.

Not sure what to think in regards to why now, but that team playing like that would win this division next season without any additions.

We need to do it again now next week, and again, and again.

I even thought coutts had a good game! I am going back to bed

Why now? I'd guess because Baps, Eds and McEvs have started to form a proper defensive partnership and we had no passengers.

It's taken a long time, much longer than we all expected, but over the last few weeks we seem to be sorting out some of our problems. Hopefully Adkins can turn round to the board and say 'this is why we need to spend money on central defenders next season, this is the difference it will make' and they'll let him bring in a couple of decent players.

you said basically we showed we have the players , so if thats the case , whos fault is it we failed

Nope, not at all.
Don't put words in my mouth to try and get me on your idiotic bandwagon.

Tell us what the BBC stats said this week.

I have to say I have been fortunate this season - managed to get to 10 matches (all wearing my late father's lucky scarf) - 7 wins, 2 draws and one defeat (Millwall). Got tickets for Gillingham next week so fingers crossed.
You should come more often.

What's your excuse ? ;)

Im going on your words
we can beat anyone on the day
that says we have sufficient decent players does it not

my bandwagon doesnt enter the picture,
I draw the conclusion if the players are capable , your opinion , someone else insnt
not a bandwagon , just logic

Logic! Good one.

Apart from the first 15-20 mins I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday. Left with a spring in my step and a smile of my face.

Only the third time this season I've done so but it was enjoyable none the less.

More of that next season please.

That's a bit like suggesting that based on Basham's goal yesterday we have a prolific goalscorer on our hands waiting to be unearthed. On his day, Basham can score against anyone in this division. However the reality is he's simply not consistent enough to have plenty of 'his days' in front of goal.

Likewise, we can beat anyone on our day, but we're not a good enough team to get that consistency – that was also true of the Warnock teams pre-2002. That didn't mean that any single one of those 1999-2002 teams had a prayer of getting into the top 6, they were distinctly average. All that yesterday taught us was that we currently have a team that can occasionally perform. We do not have a team that can consistently perform.

A result which defied logic, completely against the form book for both clubs. Burton lost and Walsall will be kicking themselves.

As for us, if only.......Walsall are as good as any side in this poor division. Great result but if only we had performed this season to 50% of our potential we would have made the play-offs. At our full potential we should have been promoted automatically. That's football as they say, everything has to be earned.
Not all together against the form book Woody our recent games at home has showed us in a different light .Playing 3 at the back has given us new imputus at home.A lot of fans didn't really appreciate the Oldham performance they're away record was 2nd only to . Walsall just one defeat up till then,Oldham hadn't won as many but difficult to beat.We saw them off will little trouble. It's frustrating but augers well for the future , a season with this kind of performance would have seen us walk this league.Baptist makes a massive difference as his reading of the game and experience are different class. If Middlesborough get promotion maybe Baptist will be surplus to them as they will be buying from an higher level , at thirty he's an ideal defender
for us as we integrate young players into the squad.I know it's early days but I get the feeling we are coming out of these dark times and we have to stick
with Adkins as he now is creating a platform to build from, many will say 1 swallow doasnt make a summer but add the young players to Adkins summer
recruits ( not last summer but this summer ) and we could early be on our way.
Now let's have a go at winning our last six and go for the play offs.

No reason why 3-5-2 shouldn't get results away from home as well. The system can be played defensively for stages of each away game and I've always liked the system. Not sure Adkins will build his squad to play the system next season though, I think it's a system he's turned to in desperation.

With 'plodders' in our midfield we need to play 5 there. If we get rid of the 'plodders' we can play Adkins' preferred system which I detect is 4-4-2. I like 5 in midfield but I don't like one on his own up front like Clough plays. I hope we build a squad based on 3-5-2.

I like optimism but I don't have any at present.

I enjoyed the first twenty minutes as well, though glad when we scored as I needed a wee. Clear from the early moments that Walsall were there for the taking.

I can't motivate myself to care. This season has been an utter disgrace and the odd win won't make any difference of that opinion now.

Aye, but to take some small positive from that, we played pretty good football at times yesterday and beat a team who we were expecting to be beaten by.

It's shows what can be done. Okay, Walsall were pretty shit from start to finish, but in a season of dogshit, one small whiff of camomile is welcome.

It doesn't mean we critics are all cunts as has been alluded. Sheffield United won't be promoted as expected (again) and that is, as you say, down to a disastrous season. But ... small mercies. I'm glad that I planned a trip to Sheffield that aligned with a home game, I was able to sit in Bramall Lane, take in the brilliance of the ground (and take it from me, when visits are few and far between, it is brilliant) and see United turn over a promotion hopeful against the form book, especially after looking like cunts on national TV a few days before.

I think the problem arises when some people come on here after yet another disappointing loss calling this player a "cunt" and that player a "cunt", most especially on the Shoutbox, but then they play ok and the posts are more to do with why the attendance figures seem exaggerated.

WE are short , about 3 players WE all know that and have done since last August
WE all were expecting something to be done about it by the new manager Adkins
but he never did anything to change it
thats whats frustrating, its something everyone saw , but we all waited , and waited and waited for some transfer activity but all we saw were excuses about 3 or 4 players who their parent clubs wouldnt release
so we should have gone elsewhere,,,, this season

So you agree that we're about 3 players short of a promotion team? I think Adkins would agree, which is why he said as much in the summer, and has since then tried to bring people in. The question is, who's responsible for the lack of recruitment – Adkins, or the board? There's only one club on Adkins's CV where he's struggled to get new players in. Can you guess which it is? Clough also struggled to get any of his targets in during his pre-season with us. The common thread here is clear to see.

the board consistantly said he could recruit especially loans werent off the table , but nothing was done except baptiste who is here to get fit after a year out and purely a token gesture
surely theres players we could bring in , Barnsley managed it to get up there from bottom 6

If I can be so bold as to bring you down to earth a bit .......

I don't want to detract one little bit from a great win, well deserved and much needed to give a crumb of comfort to the long-suffering, incredibly loyal Blades fans.

However, we should still ditch all of the out of contract players in the summer, plus a few others, as they have admirably evidenced that they are incapable of performing consistently at this agricultural level.

No more chances for this lot Nigel ....... they're playing for contracts because nobody has been sniffing around any of them so far !!!

Carry on with the planned clear-out of dead wood and rebuild in the summer with players who can be consistent at this level and we may stand a chance of escaping our self-imposed exile in this crappy division ......

Good job the board never lie or mislead us then isn't it?

I'm still pleased that we no longer need to sell our best players as they promised.

Poor board, offering a manager millions of pounds to spend and him just point blank refusing.

I would say that we're probably more like 6 or 7 players short of a genuine promotion chasing squad ........

You need to be consistent in this Division as most teams are as bad as each other ......... which is the reason why some of the more optimistic Blades are still talking about the play-offs

I agree we still need severe pruning but do have some players who when focused properly are competant
This was shown by sweeping Walsall aside with little trouble

Its so so frustrating knowing 3 decent signings and we could have guaranteed a play off spot,
We can put out a half decent team for this division , but do need bolstering and more depth if we want automatic
we all knew this , but theres only 8 or 10 clubs that will compete for the top 6 , we should be well capable of tying one of 3rd to 6th down

we only sold Murphy and hed decided to leave
the board still put up the most money in this division

these facts must miss you by

Facts? Or shit you've made up?
We've only sold Murphy?
And the board put up the most money in the division?

I'd love you to put some meat on the bones of the second one please.
