just opened that vile rags website the Sheffield Star to be greeted with an article where Adkins says we'll reach the Premier League!!!!!!!

Has that fucking idiot been sniffing glue or being out with that druggie Baxter for the night?

How the fuck are we talking about the Premier League when we can't muster up wins v Bury, Burton and fucking Gillingham?

Jesus fucking wept.

Embarrassing that those at the club, from the boardroom down, still regularly speak of the Premier League. I think most people at the club still don't see us as a League 1 club, but rather a recently relegate Championship club looking to bounce back and push on (like Leicester, Southampton, Norwich etc). The problem is that we've spent much longer down here than any of those clubs, and longer than any of the established Championship clubs who have spent time down here in recent years (Leeds, Wednesday, Forest.)

The sooner those in charge accept our status and stop talking about ridiculous pipe dreams of getting back in to the Premier League the better.

yes , lets stick with reaching the championship as target one, before we consider when we will secure a place in the champions league

Id take 5 years in the championship right now

Whilst ambition is all fine and lovely, Adkins, the Prince, McCabe, Phipps et al would do well to remember that we've been and stil are a mediocre 3rd division side for a number of years. So it's a wildly ambitious statement at least.

And under Adkins it has been a nothing short of disasterous season, one which every other manager we've had in the last 10 years would've been fired anywhere between 10-23 games.

Adkins' biggest failing has been his inability to realise the depth of the task first, before setting out a future he may not even see at the club.

Adkins has a lot to address to get out of league 1 next season, it would take an unbelievable change in form and he'd also need lots of luck as well to even get close to the play offs this season.

Premier League is a pipe dream for a club like ours. We talk ambition, however there has so far not been a plan to be executed outside paying high wages, paying many managers off and stating that we deserve to be there based on the ground, facilities, academy and fan base. The club has merely followed this with financial claims of paying money desperately.

Adkins can only be blamed for his actions this season, of course, however he's joined the rhetoric. Desperate words from a desperate manager.

I thought he was starting to get the point, but statements like this are distracting and arrogant. Adkins has a few games of this year to attempt to repair his reputation, next year he's got to carry that on and enhance it

League one is where our focus should remain

our immediate ambition would surely be winning 8 on the trot to have an outside chance of 6th ,
its as wild as we can be just now
It's surely the only ambition a midtable 3rd division side has at this time in the shittest season in a generation

It really will get decided tonight. Any less than three points and we are virtually mathematically impossible to reach 6th. I haven't looked at the other teams run in, but suspect what is lost to one will be gained by another as this league is so close.

A published plan as to how to get to the Premier League would be a start, some decent hard arsed journalistic questions to test the rhetoric of Adkins another and some bleedin honesty from all concerned, especially the
Board... We can all say things but proving it is another...

Mendacious marketing mantra , to keep season tickets selling.

Abject appeasement to counterbalance the very real prospect of 'Pigs in the Premiership'.

Deluded declaration of a dunce.

How could anyone think that Belgian Kev is capable of running a Premiership' club when he can't succeed in League One despite all the resources at his disposal ?

I have loved this Club for 50 years , but I find myself laughing outloud at it , which is a strange feeling.

Quiet week so I'm glad we've found something else to be angry about.

I'm furious. It's ruined my day! :mad::mad::mad:

I just want to rub shoulders with our natural rivals and peers again. Love to see the Bramall lane end full again.

I just want to rub shoulders with our natural rivals and peers again.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I distinctly remember talking with friends and being so, so bored of being in the Championship. Sick of playing Derby, Ipswich, Reading and the like.

What I'd give to have those days back now!

I'd be a bit more pissed off if he said we want to stay in this league forever.
Too right Wizadry all he has said is when!! What's so alarming about that. He didn't put a time scale on it ( I bet they have one though )
as that would have added to the pressure. What do some fans want ( yes a winning team ) him to say.!!,We have got to have designs on
Premiership football otherwise we might as well pack it in now.It won't happen overnight (one step at a time )but I agree with him it will!!
And as before it will be a great time when we do.

It's all about Europe for me...heck, I'd even settle for a Europa league place at this stage...

I think we should all calm down and remember this is The Star!, they have to make one story last 6 days. One throwaway comment, in an interview, becomes a news item for another day.

James Shield: "So Nigel, is getting back to the Premiership still the long term goal of Sheffield United Football Club?
Nigel Adkins: "yes of course, that is the desire of every football club and certainly ours, yes"

and something like that, above, becomes.......

"I am taking SUFC back to the Premiership!"

"Sheffield United manager, Nigel Adkins, said today how he plans to take the club back to the heights of English football, and back to the promised land, The Premiership! Adkins, who saw his team overcome a determined fight back by Crewe at the last outing, thanks to a fine winning goal by Billy Sharp, and assisted by young academy starlets, Louis Reed and Ben Whiteman, stated his desire to see The Blades back in the top flight of English football, where they would once again be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and of course, Arsenal!

It was on a famous afternoon back in December 2006 when United, with an unexpected Phil Jagielka in goal, saw marauding striker Christian Nade score the only goal, to record a famous victory over the North London side, and send the Blades fans home for a very happy new year.

The season ended badly, of course, with United relegated on the final day of the season, and set in motion the long and drawn out "Carlos Tevez Affair", which, thanks to the dogged determination of Kevin McCabe, saw United emerge from the courtroom, victorious.

When asked about guiding The Blades back to the top tier of English football, Nigel Adkins commented "yes of course, that is the desire of every football club, and certainly ours, yes"

I've no desire for Premiership football to be honest. One tier higher and I'll be relatively happy.

I see your point but I found plodding along in the championship for over a decade quite tiresome. As much as I despise the premier league it's still the place to be and to attract better quality players.

True a few years in the championship is ok but you have to at least show you are aiming higher.

If you think tippy tappy is boring wait until you get into the Premier League at £60 a ticket. Never watch it . Dont know any of the players for a start.
Championship will do for me.

They are trying to big the shite club up to sell it now they've wrecked it.

We are 3-4 years away from getting back to the Championship at the moment.

As for James Shield, the worst football journalist ever, just before Blackwells last season started he produced an arse licking article describing Blackwell as "The Mourinho of The Championship" ... A month later when he was sacked Shield decided Blackwell was "better suited to being a coach than a manager". Two faced twat

Zero respect for inventing a story out of an obvious response to, frankly, a stupid question. Are you aiming for the Premier League? Er.... no, why would we do that........... FFS!

I will have to take your word that JS asked him that specific question. Having listened to a good number of NA interviews he does have a tendency to shoot of in a complete different tangent when asked about a completely different subject. He has mentioned the Premiership in other interviews when the RS reporter hadn't even asked the question. An interview totally designed to get supporters on his side making claims X might happen sooner later probably might happen with no evidence to support it happening at all IMO.
