Decent enough interview. Includes: first half something to build on, a few bits of tactics, there was loan activity yesterday.

  • Q: What about the second half?
  • A: What about the first half?
  • :tumbleweed:
  • Could've been 4 or 5 up - a bit excited there Nige, but fairy nuff: 3-0 wouldn't've been flattering
  • frustrating going in 1-0 when we could've been out of sight
  • they threw three up front and we had to weather it - looks exciting but they were vulnerable, and we did score
  • didn't get out quick enough from the corner
  • one of the youngsters learned a lesson - named as Reed in another interview - and later in this one
  • Whiteman and Reed get praise for the winner
  • grit reslience resolve - this is a very good point we'd gone 2-2 after being 2-0 up with youngsters on the pitch they could have folded instead they created the goal - this is what you'll get with them to some extent, inconsistent: infuriating - then inspired. Nige's Nippers.
  • important at this stage of the season to get the result
  • first half is something to build on - I think he's dead right about that - question is can we build on it?
  • scored three at home again
  • all the good work undone by lapses of concentration
  • need to weather it
  • players played really well first half
  • youngsters on when we scored the winner - true dat
  • super winning goal - it really was
  • Asked about Done: great first half but needed to press higher second half and squeeze in
  • we ended up 5-3-2 which was not the idea
  • 3-5-2 first half meant if we did lose possession we got it back quickly - this, again, I think is what he wants
  • we'll keep working on it
  • endeavouring ;) to keep the two strikers closer together so there's more combination play, more link up play, I think we've gone and done that - we did, Billy and Ché do combine well: I like their Yorke/Cole dummy-turn-ball in combination
  • out of possession wants us to be in better positions to come and pick the ball so we can play a high line squeeze and press
  • super cross - made amends
  • can't let players walk past you - somewhere around here Reed was mentioned
  • have to realise there's a defensive side to the game - general point, not just Reed
  • have to get out quicker and have more desire to close the shot
  • pleased with the first half
  • good to show resilience in the second half
  • very offensive formation
  • have to be ruthless when we get chances and put teams to the sword - we are the Blades after all :D
  • :tumbleweed:
  • Coutts cramp - everyone available for Wednesday
  • were busy with a couple of loans
  • thought we had one in yesterday morning - no reason given why it didn't go through
  • but there's a...pathway for the youngsters ;)
  • need to nurture the younger players
  • Whiteman going to be interesting: we see him as a midfield player
  • have a lot of belief in him
  • involved in the first team hopefully can flourish over the next year
  • can play both CHs, holding MF, right wing back, or where he played today, athletic player, good stature, good range of pass, and he can score goals

Always give up after about line three or four.

Well if he thinks the issue about their formation change was that they put three up front and not the mugs they made of us in midfield then I seriously fear for his eyesight and / or sanity

He said in the interview that we gave their midfield too much space and sat back too much. Adkins didn't want us to sit back in the second half but the team decided to anyway.

You can forgive the youngsters making mistakes but its clear the more experienced players in the squad are not paying attention.

I sensed that Adkins bristled when the interviewer complimented Whiteman in Hammond's role.

I sense he bristles when Done is praised and I sense he doesn't rate Reed, why?, because he doesn't give him nearly enough game time and I think he took the opportunity to have a go at him, despite the biggest show of class by any player all game when he made the third goal, also despite the fact that the man he replaced didn't defend all game.

While I'm at it. I think he's intimidated by Coutts who clearly argued with him from the pitch and who should have been subbed much earlier IMO.

Only player that has been a flop is Woolford but he does not play him that often.

It's a pity a few more opposition players aren't intimidated by Courts.

I was really looking forward to Coutts playing this season. Thought he'd got an injury end of last season and that was the reason he wasn't playing too well then.
However for me, he's still not putting himself about and I think it's him and his attitude that's the problem.

I think it's his physical condition as much as anything.

He lacks mobility, presumably because of his serious injury 2/3 years ago, he can't help that. He gasps for breath very early in games; whether that's a result of the immobility and he can't train properly, who knows? He lacks stamina maybe for the same reason.

Somebody on here noted that he had been a bit of a rebel in his time at a previous club. Maybe now Clough has gone he simply doesn't want to be here any more.

I see so much of all that in his body language. Pity, he could be our 'main man'.

That makes sense. Had a chat with a certain Simon Clough this morning and he was saying that he was surprised at his lack of fitness. I suggested they might like him back but he said maybe I 1st division but not for championship.

He gives Reed far more game time than most people I come across seem to think he deserves.
He's nowhere near the player you make him out to be.

Is Simon Clough your newsagent? Is he in football these days?

Whiteman looks the part to me too. After a good debut I'm surprised he's not had more game time. Reed's playing time is a travesty.

Calvert-Lewin came on yesterday and we started winning the ball in the air. I got the impression the lad was looking to express himself yesterday and he certainly looks an athlete. Now Adkins does rate Lewin and I believe him.Looks like a maiden thoroughbread champing at the bit before he takes on the world!!

All subs though, sat on the bench watching the older brigade creak and stutter and huff, puff and pant. Watching Reed and Whiteman fills up my senses. Watching Hammond and Coutts reminds me of yesterday's greasy, congealed chip butties.

I think they are all miles off the required standard, DCL being the furthest away. If they were all regulars we'd be relegation fodder.

I'm fine with the odd appearance, as long as that's all it is. But the answers to our current problems are definitely not within the club at the moment.

Giving them game time is the only way they will improve but I agree you can't build a whole squad on all of our youngsters. They just need to get good enough that they can slowly but surely play more often.

Like Adkins pretty much said in his interview if we don't use the academy then why bother having it?

Well, I wouldn't bother having it! :)

But we have, and a smaller squad using academy players to fill in is sensible given where we are. My concern is the over enthusiasm some have got home grown talent.

DCL being a case in point - completely out of his depth, but some suggesting we should be seeing more of him.

At this level of football developing your own talent is no bad thing. Especially when you have the likes of McCabe running your club unwilling to invest in a proper squad by buying better players off the clubs around us.

How many decent players from this league or below passed us by? Byrne, Freeman, Washington etc.

Scrap the academy and lets keep getting other clubs injured cast offs. We can keep the short-termism going and then scratch our heads wondering why we are still in League 1 in 10 years time or worse.

One day they've got to wean us off those greasy, congealed chip butties. We've had far too many for our good health, look :fattwat::):)

Why does scrapping the academy go hand in hand with continually buying cast offs? Two entirely separate issues. We've got an academy, and we buy cast offs. Using your logic the academy could cause this, not negate it.

Other than Wigan, non of the teams above us and likely to be promoted will have an academy anything like ours.

We have a good academy and I feel we should use it more and be less reliant on other clubs cast offs. If we don't really want to use more of our youngsters then we still have a bench to fill and it is usually with cast offs who are a waste of money.

Do we want more Woolfords on a free or Sammons on loan just to keep the bench warm?

Make the case for the academy. Stop linking it to the purchase of cast offs. Che Adams and Jamie Murphy are not cast offs.

The only evidence we have is that we both have an academy and buy too many cast offs - at the same time. If they were linked at all, it would suggest the academy causes this, which it clearly doesn't.

These are 2 separate points that you have linked to try and make a point. It doesn't make sense.

The case for the academy is there already, we have produced decent players from it before. The form of the youngsters this season has been better than the first teams and we have some promising players.

With that awkward silence at the start I get the feeling he's really fed up with interviewers on RS this season.

What Adkns needs to realise with his silent start , being clever . We are more than fed up with his interviews . Pity you don't get points for positive , deluded , bull shit interviews , we would be top of the league.

I just don't like the smug bastard . Perhaps I would if we were performing and winning . Nothing has given me confidence that we will succeed next season . This bloke has not moved us forward but backwards . We have seen managers waste money in the past , just watch this one .

He has Reading written all over him .
