  • That is the 640000 dollar question?
  • Looks like we have arrived at the cross roads again judging
  • By an ever increasing band of blades is that realistic?
  • This season is still alive ( just) play offs are still there for the taking but probably we won't make it due to inconsistency.
  • So it all kicks off again ( sack the manager) , in my opinion that would be silly as history shows (our history), many clubs have in the past have done this, some it's worked others it's failed we are in the 2nd category. Let's take a short history trip!!
Warnock comes in succeeds but it takes a few years ,doasnt get a lot of financial help initially but McCabe
Backs his man and we go up.All going great until warnock gets the January window all wrong, instead of
bringing in experienced players he goes for un tried young players and combined with the misfortune of losing our centre forward to a broken leg we are unluckily relegated on the back of the tevez affair.
It now all goes wrong as Mccabe puts his money on one failure after another (manager ).
Robson had more backing than any manager in our history and Mccabe rightly sacked him in the end, he
would have took us down.Blackwell came in and did a fair job but the poor football we played was disappointing (what would we give for that now ) ,he also got good money to build a team.Next comes what in my opinion is McCabe's 1st big mistake, allowing Blackwell to build a team through the summer and sacks
him imediatly after losing to QPR .Blackwell built the team to play a direct style of football and Gary Speed takes over turns the style upside down,we play pretty football with no finished product. We then turn to Mick Adams who has a reputation for fire fighting (Warnock style ) and for love or money can't buy a win.
Relegated !! Adams says he can't work with certain players and Mccabe sacks him ( player power or what !!)
Incomes Danny Wilston who does a good job with the players Adams couldn't work with misses promotion due to something that can only happen to us and the pigs benefit (could you write the script ).A poor season followed ( football wise not results we were still in the mix when the axe fell ) McCabe sacks Wilson and Morgan can't get us over the line. Weir least said the better but that was a shocker.Nigel clough follows and after initially struggling he finds a way to win playing without an out and out striker. What a finish to the season 3 or 4 more games and we would have reached the play offs and in my opinion we would have won them.Last season what can you say Clough starts playing got and decides we can defend without proper centre backs nieve! crazy in my mind, goals conceded from dead balls cost us numerous points .We get to playoffs and sticks to his guns of not having centre backs (even though Collins is back from Vale having played a vital roll keeping them out of trouble )and we concede loads of poor goals. I just don't understand
what he was thinking, spends his budget on one big signing ( Brayford ) when there were bigger glaring weaknesses ,I wonder if this was the major thing which got him the bullet.
We are now with Nigel Adkins who inherites a squad with the mark of a number of managers on it .,Does the right thing and gives everyone a chance.Having tried everyone and tried all kinds of formula's he settles on 3 at the back ,which I think suits what we've got.,The problems are still there but it does make us more competitive.Games are running out but this is probably our best way of a ing a late charge for the play offs.
Hope I havn't sent anybody to sleep nearly done now.
Each change of manager has got us deeper in the shit to change again in my opinion would be crazy,I accept we should have done better with the squad we've got,but clough left us with some glaring gaps in the squad which for one reason or another Adkins has failed to shore up.Having so many players has not helped
and Adkins will soon be able to get rid of the dead wood and build a team to play the way he beleaves. He is the latest to be in this position is the axe going to fall again or is he going to get a fair crack at it! Stay with him is my take on it and I have the feeling the board feel the same way.
Anyone still awake ?☺☺☺

I think it's almost certain that 3-5-2 is a stop-gap. Given the choice he'd base his teams on 4-4-2.

Like it or not I think we're in this for the long term. The clear, consistent message is Adkins will be entrusted with rebuilding the squad this summer.

This will also redefine the club.

There's loud demand for the Bassett/Warnock School of Blood and Thunder/Thud and Blunder but I think instead we'll be playing patiently through the thirds.

If we get results we might be quickly converted connoisseurs. If not then it might be another sacking and another five seasons down here at least.

Playing patiently through the thirds . WHF lets just play football were it's enjoyable again to come to BDTBL.

It is not blood and thunder we want , it's like what Adkins says , attacking , exciting football with plenty of goals.

The question - is Adkins the man to deliver or could he put us back another 5 seasons down here .

Personally the bloke has Reading stamped all over him , or do we blame fans , players , Clough. The guy is getting too much of a easy ride IMO.

If we do stick with him it will be the first time ever that I won't listen to a single managerial interview from the start of preseason onwards. Just can't do it anymore.

Ok tbf I think playing through the thirds without the patient bit is more what he's said.

'Patient' is maybe me reminiscing about Fleetwood at home, which I thought was a footballing masterclass - and a 3-0 win.

Got booed. We ditched it. And look where we are now ;-)

And breathe!

Cant understand why his names still on the car parking spot should have been painted over by now

They just write 'Nigel' on the space, to save money on painting it over they just recruit Nigel's.

I wonder if Farage is any good at football management?

At least it would be interesting and humourous!

Although it would be borderline racist and we would only have british players! So maybe not so good!

This is about random, but you are I assume named after the ripping yarns character. Another poster calls himself Ken shabby. He is a monty Python character also I believe played by Michael Palin.

I don't get out much.

I think if you're going to advocating sacking a manager then shouting, "Adkins out!" is just not trying: certain creative literary standards should be met. Like this:

I remember a few games ago commenting how strange it was to hear silence at Mestalla. Oh, how Los Che were wishing for silence. There was murder in the air tonight. Old women twisted their faces in rage as they hurled salvo after salvo of insults at the bench. Old men waved hankies and sneered. Whistles pierced the still night air after every Valencia touch. Fans tossing their programs at the pitch in disgust as they streamed to the exits. To call it toxic would be to downplay the vitriol and anger.

Have I mentioned before how Neville doesn't seem to understand the importance of the midfield? If not, let me reiterate: Neville was crazy to play so open in the middle. Suicidal. Celta tore through the center like a rhino through kleenex. And not even an attempt at pressing from the gallant chickens of Valencia.

The movement and passing for both goals was exceptional. Nolito and Orellano were spectacular in the second half, despite the fact that the latter couldn't score even if there was a supermassive black hole in goal. And that dribble and finish from Mallo. Woooooof.

Four losses in five and three straight. Valencia are now in possession of the worst form in the league. With Las Palmas, Rayo, and Granada in hot pursuit, Gary's boys looks to suddenly be in real danger of the drop. Deflated and clueless, it'd be hard to argue they don't deserve it.

I must show you my collection of shovels and rain gauges.
Genuinely now, I'm a window cleaner and i was cleaning an old womans windows the other week. She had a Spear and Jackson shovel in her garden. I was so excited i took a pic of it to show my dad who loves Ripping Yarns. At that moment i realised i had become eric. Also being a window cleaner we are obsessed with rainfall!

It's kind of weird we went from Danny Wilson to David Weir. Saves money on buying any new training jackets with DW on it.
Then Nigel to Nigel. Saves changing anything with the name "Nige" on it.

We can't really be that skint, can we??

That's a heck of a compensation pay out.

And no, keep him. I want to see proper football played and the alternative is long ball fighters. It hasn't worked this season but I want him to have next season to see what we can do.

If we're ever going to have success we need to build with a long term plan. The alternative is to bounce between the Championship and First division for all eternity, with the occasional dalliance with the top and bottom flights. Screw that.

It worked for Arsenal

Don't waste a taxi fare on just Adkins. Make sure Hammond, Woolford and Sammon are in there with him and that defensive stiff Edgar on the roof rack.

Agree 100% with that, Robbie

Just let him get on with it in his own way.........If he fails ,eventually he will leave as all managers do. He knows that and so do all managers. But to get rid because of the way he interviews is rather daft. Bores me silly listening to all
after match interviews of every manager . Everyone says the same old speak every week.
Judge him on next season ,or do we sack him now and the new man wants more time to evaluate the players already here that he has inherited. It justs goes on and on.
Most successful clubs all have a plan in place with managers that they invest in for periods longer than the silly ten months. But team manager is king and common sense is not. Perhaps people like to see a new manager every ten months. Anyway Howard Molsen,s gorra new shovel. Ime off to the town hall to read the rain gauge due to increased precipitation on Denly Moor.

The most memorable post I've read this weekend was to the effect that Adkins and his coaches seemed like they must have just gained their coaching badges and were determined to play 3-5-2 regardless of players able to do so ( sorry I can't give credit as I don't know who wrote it). I must say that was the case for the first few months of the season with 4-4-2 for which we didn't have the players either. Anyway, we've had 3 distinct changes of system this season to add to the instability.

3-5-2 is my favoured system at any level. Importantly though I would never play a high line by the back 3, exactly the opposite. That's maybe just me and the modern way may be different but the sight of our dispirited Back 3 in the highlights yesterday in complete disarray on a series of simple breakaways will stick with me for a long time. Basham has a bit of pace but no brain, Edgar is slow and Baptiste not very quick either. They looked as though they were under strict orders to play high but they were effectively hung out to dry and demoralised early in the game. Seriously embarrassing for three experienced pros. It has to be a simple matter that no team can play a high line 3 without pace at the back. Even a Back 3 of Joe Shaw, Paul McGrath and Harry Maguire with all their combined skills but little pace would suffer in such a system.

It really is hard to believe this is all happening. We have a totally dispirited club and there is little evidence the manager has a single clue about what he's doing. Yesterday morning we had more than a half chance of making the play-offs. The manner of the defeat yesterday came as a shock to me, not others on here I acknowledge, but it did to me.

Team selection was surprising. The 'pathway' for youth players was firmly sealed off and dropping McEveley was cruel as he has been one of our most committed and effective players recently. Cuvelier's inclusion was strange and Sammon's inclusion simply bizarre.

We could have been 4 down by half time. I think Long rescued us from a thrashing more by good luck than judgement but rescue us he did - again - he is usually in the top 3 ratings week in week out which means he gets plenty of opportunities to show what he can do and that has to be a poor sign.

Adkins will keep his job by default if he does keep it. What a crisis we find ourselves in. A totally dispirited club at every level and particularly the most important level - us fans.

Good post Woody . Adkins IMO is keeping his job by default .

Saturday was baffling with the team selection.

Adkins seems to see a different match to the rest of us.

We all thought a bit of tweaking preseason and we would have a promotion chasing side.

The benchmark was set at the first match at Gillingham and has not been changed , but perhaps got worst .

What's the answer. I am sure McCabe thinks the same as us - completely bemused , lost and doesn't know what to do.
