As I recall he went into a block tackle and shattered (?) a whole load of muscles in his inner thighs, which never healed properly.
He used to go into the Devonshire Arms in Dore, which used to be a frequent haunt of my Old feller when he was in Dore Male Voice Choir.
(Me Dad, not Les) and they used to natter about all sorts of shit over a few jars of Waaards.

Yeah Les used to frequent the Dev but never saw him have too many to drink unlike some (myself included . He was a nice social sort of bloke, really popular, and contrary to the views of many who probably never saw him play, wasn't too bad a player for us at the time. Would he have walked into today's team? Don't know but he for sure would have had more than enough heart.
