Neil Warnock

The fact a debate about whether Warnock was any good or not, when everyone else in the country would say he's one of the best managers outside the PL and has been for twenty years, runs for ten pages indicates to me that whoever we get will never be good enough for some of our supporters.

The reasons for disliking him, with the exception of his public flirting with Portsmouth, are, in my opinion, pathetic.

Agreed. It's some of the most outrageous horseshit ever posted on here.

Pretty fair comment there. NW getting us to the PL certainly increased the attending fan base.
If I have any issue with Warnock it's his capitulation on the field in some games, notably Villa away, and his interest in other jobs in that season. I don't let that cloud my memories of promotion and the triple assault season etc.

Yeah but he's a passionate bloke and passionate people can to others be somewhat irrational. He felt done over no doubt and reacted accordingly. I am not saying it's right but if I can see a motive at least one can rationalise it.

One more poxy goal would have done it, even a last minute consolation at Villa, or Danny Webber not bottling that penalty against Chelsea, or.....

Or.....!
That's the thing isn't it Baying? A sequence of unfortunate events you might say. At times being a Blade makes you feel like Unlucky Alf.

I also believe you never go back. It was something brilliant while it lasted. I for one want to hold onto the memories and not have them tarnished by him coming back and it not being the same. Because as much as we cling on to it being like the old days, it won't be.
.

Good job Bournemouth didn't think that way.

There's no "rule" that says"never go back". Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

Mcabe did care for the club. He gave Warnock a free reign and money to save us from relegation. What did he do he bought. Fathi. Shelton,Akinbayi, Horsefield, and Dean Windass. He fell out straight away with Windass who never played, and Horsefield who i think played once. Fathi played twice i think and Akinbayi and Shelton were in and out. What a great judge of a player. Spent money like water hoping to get it right. No wonder Mcabe sacked him. Big time Charlie........no season ticket for me if he returns........Total Liability and totally siglehandedly turned the FA hierarchy against the club. That must be quite hard to do, but he did it.

Half of the players you name check were bought the season before, and certainly not to save us from relegation.

I always remember the Blackburn home game, two penalty's saved and Blackburn had a penalty too, ended 0-0...

If I'm reading that right you can rationalise him giving up, or worse?

Warnock managed in the football league for nearly 23 years. I've just totted up 6 promotions and 2 relegations, hope that's accurate.

He managed us for nearly eight years.

It was 7 promotions. He did get relegated twice, but he also managed to save at least a couple of sides (ourselves being one) from relegation.

Still within a minute, how old are you? Get a life? Watch the smiley face:(

Btw, not exactly right = wrong. Now that's a jibe. It wasn't off the top of your head either, you'd "totted it up".

What is that all about. someone please interpret that.

Oh my goodness Barney 'likes' within a minute, now I am in the doldrums.:tumbleweed: Please release me somebody.
I checked knowing you might say that and you were viewing the thread about 30 seconds after! And you've just replied to Sean after a couple of minutes. A tip, don't immediately do what you've just criticised someone else for doing.

Anyone who lives in Whitby and travels to BDTBL is ok in my book , even if a little self righteous sometimes , accidentally on purpose. Keep the pecker up , and the footy can only get better , than the posts .:p

UTB

It says you're not in charge of who posts and when and that yet again your claims are wrong. It was a poor post you made. You should really have moved on Blanche :)

Not until I started posting on Bladesmad and on here did I ever realise I was "self-righteous", but I think you are right.

My written word and my obsession with United is much different to my face to face persona and I must say that thinking through all the issues and responding to all the varied points of view on forum have taught me loads about myself. I've not only travelled from Whitby to Bramall Lane every game, that's just for 6 years and being a Blade meant it was a big decision to move in fact, but we did. Our big concern is those years when we find it more difficult to travel every game.

I've been away with United to 86 league grounds and plenty that are now in non-league. I've been watching and supporting United for 59 years. In a way I must admit I am entitled to have an opinion and I think I have an opinion that may well bear the fruition of all those years 'experience' in my second love after my family.

My Lord, I apologise for having a go at you the other night when I was celebrating the arrival of my third grandson. I'm still celebrating tonight in fact, bet you can't tell!:)

Can anyone else explain that?

And that?

Don't understand your post. IIRC Warnock expected some form of contract extension or uplift or something. He didn't get it so went to talk to Portsmouth? Now that may or may not be true, that he talked. I can't remember. It may have been bluffing to get McCabe to change his mind or it may have have been totally kosher and he felt so pissed off, he said right I'll go then. I can totally understand that. It may not have been the best move, but that is how he felt and his demeanour would clearly lend itself to that action.

But with Warnock I think a lot is WYSIWYG and as for passionate people that is often how they are. By contrast I think DB was more restrained. Yes he could get upset, but if you like he was more controlled. Whether he was better tactically or not I don't know. But on stats DB largely kept us up until Deane was sold 'over his head'. By contrast NW doesn't, sadly, have a god record at the top tier in English football.

For what it is worth in my opinion Warnock would have kept us up if Hulse hadn't got crocked at Chelsea. That is what cost us our place. Not Tevez, Villa, Shelton at Man Utd but Hulse's injury. Goals win games. Without our goalscorer we were stuffed.

I said if I was reading it correctly - that maybe you were saying NW didn't give it his all when he knew he wasn't getting a new contract - you rationalised his decision. The bloke was paid to do a job but as you say wysiwyg and I've seen enough of him to know he's quite capable of spitting the dummy out.

I agree about Hulse, it would be foolish not too but his tactics at times were shocking. McCabe gave him money to spend and it went on Fathi Seck and Shelton but why did we buy them when we were supposedly after Murphy (who he said we couldn't afford) as he has claimed since ?

There were plenty of rumours around at the time as to why he wasn't getting another contract before the Portsmouth debacle. Even then with the above signings McCabe gave him money to spend, another poor decision to go with all the others.

It's only the PL season that soured it with Warnock for me,
