Where does Brian Deane fit into this calculation?

Deane scored 50 goals before Whitehouse did.

Dane Whitehouse is the most recent player to reach the milestone. Since Dane Whitehouse reached 50, the closest we have are:

Ched Evans (48)
Michael Brown (35)
James Beattie (34)
Marcelo (33)
Richard Cresswell (30)
Paul Devlin (29)
Peter Ndlovu (29)
Andy Gray (28)
Carl Asaba, Marcus Bent (24)
Fjortoft, Kabba (23)

Just shows how poor we have been since 1997 or how we have been unable to hang onto anybody half decent

Yep it's the same logic behind why some twat who sells carpets probably won't have a clue when it comes to running a football club.

Just like the vast majority of posters on here then (including myself). We are football KnowsNowts, we do talk a good game though!:)

Interesting.

Do you know the goals to games ratio?

Billy is obviously our best player and scorer at the moment but is on his third stint. So how many games per goal?

Key word "professional" :D. Reserve football isn't classed as professional football.

Sharp was a professional when he played in the reserves. I think you need to insert "first team" in there :-)

Whitehouse - 1 in 4.8
Evans - 2.35
Brown - 4.9
Beattie - 2.4
Marcelo - 2.5
Cresswell - 4.7
Devlin - 5.8
Ndlovu - 5.3
Gray - 2.3
Asaba - 2.9
Bent - 2.7
Fjortoft - 1.8
Kabba - 3.8
Sharp - 3.7

Maybe, but he was playing for a none professional team i.e. Sheff Utd U21s/U18s/Reserves etc.

Professional = First Team (in this country anyway), In Spain they have "B" teams that play in the 2nd tier

How are the 2nd and 3rd teams "non professional" teams? The players who play in those teams get paid don't they?

In Spain they also have bullfighting, duck chasing, and throwing donkeys off towers (probably). But we aren't in Spain, so what they do there has no relevance to this discussion.

No, 24 professional goals in the official shirts of Sheffield United Football Club.

If you are going to compare players from different eras the best way to do it is via league goals. Our top goalscorer is Harry Johnson who never scored a single goal in the League Cup..........he also scored them all in the First Division.

Imagine the mess they'd [SUFC] be in if they couldn't come on here and have us lot to guide them?

I'm not comparing players from different eras. I am stating which players have got the closest to 50 FIRST TEAM goals for Sheffield United since 1997... The last time a player reached said milestone.

Some really baffling posts on here.

Apparently we don't want skill, just s bunch of cloggers who give 110%. Apparently that kind of football is what makes Sheff Utd special.

Maybe the Bassett/ Warnock up and at em give 100% is the United way that fans demand. A skillfil passing style would be booed at the Lane with comments like boot it up and gerrit in box.

Also apparently we sell our best talent at the 1st sign of interest.seems people forget we have just given the hottest property in league 1 a lucrative contract.

I put Dane and Bradshaw in the same boat. Good players who would run through walls for the club.

Unfortunately that kind of player is becoming rare in football as a whole not just at Sheff Utd.

I'm sure if he had scored in the 1993 FA Cup Semi final, you would have counted that one.

EDIT to the above... Billy Sharp is currently on 24

You've also missed Nathan Blake, who from memory has 34 league goals in 69 games, and one in the league cup.

That’s a shocking indictment of our selling club approach. Not hung onto a player long enough for him to get 50 goals over the courts of the last 18 years.

Despite playing for the club more recently, he would have hit 50 goals significantly earlier.
